Talking People per day

I'm going to write at the end of each day how many people I have helped on this forum per day in my signature. I'd like to know the following:

-is this bannable?
-do you think it is stupid and why? would I make myself look like an egoist?ee

I think it's okay. It would just be like "I've helped 15 people today" not like "Hey everyone look at me I help so many people". So I don't think its a bad idea just you'd have to keep count lol.

Well... the real question is if you have helped them. Or you just think by posting and offering your opinion or advice is helping them... This is a very good question. How much do we really help!

I think every small positive action can have a enormous impact for the highest good of all. Here is an example: Climate Change

EDIT:I'm still waiting for a mod to tell me whether this is bannable.

Well first off you don't really know how many people you've helped that day.. (your taking a educated/summarized guess) secondly the only person you’re really helping is yourself.. after all.. all reality comes through you

I mean attempting to help.

I don't believe I can only help myself. You may think what you're talking about is SR, but it's really soliphilism. There are other people out there, but they only exist inside of you. Or me, for that matter.

I'd consider this post a +1!

Why specifically are you doing it? Are you trying to break a record?

The more people you help, the lower quality you provide. Wouldn't it be better to ascertain the level quality responses you're willing to give to people on this forum and then determine the amount of people you can give that quality to without compromising your other personal goals.

For example. Say you grade quality in such a way

A- Long, good, detailed response
B- Moderate above-average response
C- Two-four lines of generic advice

Once you choose which you want. For example say you choose A and due to your personal schedule, you can only provided 2 A-quality posts per day. And that's what you do. Each day, you crank out 2 A-quality responses to questions which you carefully choose as not all questions merit an A-quality response.

Benefits of this is you would only choose questions in which you are able provide A-quality responses since your knowledge of personal development is probably specialized in a specific area to which you've had extensive experience. Imagine if the only responses you posted on this forum were high quality. Therefore you'd actually end up helping more people than the people you specifically reply to as people do also search archives for previously answered questions that pertain to them. That would more helpful in the sense that you would gain a good reputation for posting high quality responses, which would prompt members here to specifically seek out your responses on the field of personal development that you specialize in.

Like me. When I have a generic problems in my life, I just visit Steve's site. I've associated his ideas with quality so that's usually the only site I go to. I find other sites say more or less what he has to say so I just go to his site.

What do you think?

If you generally think that you always want to be on the line before behavior becomes bannable, that's certainly problematic behavior.

Talking about this in terms of “bad news” or “bad judgment by business leaders” seems archaic. It’s like describing World War One as “a serious diplomatic concern.”
Bruce Sterling about the financial crisis.

I don't see what use it has. As others point out, you may not actually help the people you think you do. But that is irrelevant; why do you go through the trouble of changing the signature after every post? What purpose does it serve?

Stupid? Egoist? Pfft.

Almost everything I do--things that feel good and interesting to me--would be things that people think are stupid.

If it truly feels good to you, Aleksander, do it!

The way you're currently doing it does indeed fall within the rules of the forum, so have at it.

Another fun metric you could add is: living creatures saved today (i.e. not killing bugs like mosquitoes, spiders, and cockroaches.)

Yes, at first thought I do think its stupid. Can you explain why you want to do this? It does look egotistical to me and if it was to please the ego why not save it for yourself? Keeping these kinds of things to yourself might give you more or true fulfillment is my experience.

Im not trying to make you go away from what youre doing here so by any means, like Bruce said, do what you think is right.

Ah, I finally see this post, although I've seen your signature elsewhere.

My comments are:

First, if you add up the total at the end of the day, then it's not accurate to say "Today". Saying "Yesterday" is more accurate and makes more sense too.

Second, I think it's fun you do that. Quirky, but fun.

Third, are you sure your post helped someone? Just because you think you've helped someone, doesn't mean you actually do it. What kind of feedback mechanism are you employing to make sure that your post or your action actually helped someone, rather than those posts and action having no meaningful impact?

@seeker5:

It's nice you noticed it.

Good point, but I'm only doing it for fun and writing the people I thought I helped, and from your perspective, yes I think that's a good thing.
