Default Recognizing self-awareness

Many of us struggle to develop self-awareness. We are so engaged in the dramas of life that we do not see the part we play. We rarely take responsibility for the negative thoughts or behaviour. Of course this isn't deliberate. We do the best we can with what we know but for those who are wanting change, self-awareness is the beginning.

It isn't easy and yet it is. Our whole being is reflected in every part of our lives. Everywhere you look. Every thought you think. Every experience you have reflects a part of yourself. The hard bit is in claiming it.
The character traits we give others is one of the more obvious reflections. When it is good, it reflects who we think we are and when it's bad we think it is them but it is really who we are. Our perceptions are projections of ourselves. It isn't so black and white, simply because of our diversity but it's a start.

The key is to not judge either as good or bad but to decide true or false.
Who are we being? Just in the past few days I saw my own reflection through my adult daughter. It began with an angry phone call and proceeded in writing on Facebook.

I saw how tough she was being with me. I saw how cocky she was and how she came at me with all guns firing. I felt the injured and attacked party so what did I do? Came out firing all guns, was cocky and showing her how she had met her match. DOH!

It took a few exchanges before I was able to step back and see myself. I'm not so tough. I always lose. It wasn't the loving mother image I held of myself. Lord, I was turning into her.

She is still not speaking to me but the experience has taught me to not to pretend I'm so tough. That is all I need to change and the cocky fighter in me will be under control. I realized I was a good bluffer too but when your kids call your bluff, you can't take their bloody heads off, can you? I love a bit of self-awareness. Regards
