Default Destruction of the entire nerval system!

I've just read in a book about pranayahma joga that this might happen if I do a certain exercise incorrectly.

So my question is that is it a fear like Steve usually says and I should overcome it or should I stop using those exercises?

Please don't post ZOMG ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?! because I'm already 90% into not doing it. I'm just wondering if this is a fear pointing into direction of where growth lies

Something about breathing, I would write it here but I'm not risking someone on the other side getting hurt because of it. Sorry.

OK... does the exercise appear dangerous to you as it is written? How advanced are you in yoga? What's your reason for doing this?

You might consider Book 4 part 1 by Aleister Crowley or Eight Lectures on Yoga by same person

No not really. Also I'm not advanced in yoga. Third, my reason for doing this is developing mental concentration and visualization.

It is all too easy to claim that fears are just "limiting beliefs", but this is the ultimate form of survivor bias. Some fears are in fact justified, and will keep you from harm.

If this exercise isn't important enough to learn from a qualified teacher, maybe it isn't important enough to learn at all? ZOMG.

In what way is it dangerous? The yoga described in Book 4 might be of more use to you. In my experience trying to take a giant leap into exercises like this won't bring you any reward, you can't just skip ahead to advanced exercises like with any other subject

It's dangerous in a way that it can destroy the ENTIRE nerval system.

Also, I'm not skipping any exercises. I'm doing as I'm told by the author:easy exercise first, then make progress.

Is this a kundalini thing? If the exercise doesn't appear dangerous to you why do you believe it can destroy your nervous system? And surely destruction of the nervous system implies death?

No, it's not kundalini. How do I think it's dangerous? Just like cocaine is nothing else but powder, but that doesn't mean it isn't dangerous to one's health.

Are you bad at English?

All I'm saying is that just because something doesn't look harmful, it doesn't mean it isn't.

You're talking about this, right? (Pranayama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

I haven't heard anyone's nervous system getting destroyed as a result of doing it wrong...

From the same wiki cited above:

"Many yoga teachers recommend that pranayama techniques be practiced with care, and that advanced pranayama techniques should be practiced under the guidance of a teacher. These cautions are also made in traditional Hindu literature."

I've always wondered about this. There's these warnings all over the place but the only dangerous experience I actually have proof of is rising kundalini, as in Gopi Krishna's account.

Anyway, why does the book say "destroy one's entire nervous system" rather than death? They are one in the same.

If you're not going to explain what the hell you're talking about, how do you expect anyone to give you informed advice?

Yes, Aleksander, this exercise will destroy your entire nervous system the moment you attempt it. Only the most highly trained monks in the most remote temples in Asia are able to perform it without injury. And you are right not to share such an esoteric passage in "Pranayahma Yoga For Dummies," for the denizens of this forum are weak of mind and know not what is best for them.

You may be asking yourself: "How could a breathing exercise destroy my ****ing nervous system? How could meditation possibly make me a vegetable?" That's a good question and I'm glad you brought it up. You see what happens is
