Looking for an alternate Purpose

Hello,

I am currently reevaluating my life and the direction it is going in. (as I am sure we all do at some point in our lives) I am a business graduate working in my major, and the truth is, it sux. I never wanted to study business, but it came to a point where I had no choice. It was business or no degree at all. So here I am realizing that this is the most unfullfilling thing a person can do with his/her life, when I come upon the idea to join the peace corps. Here I can help people and gain new experiences that will help me become a well rounded person. The problem is, I am in a serious relationship with a person I love deeply. If I leave, I run the risk of losing him and our future. Are there any alternatives to living a more purpose-driven life? Or better said, living a life full of purpose. Purpose meaning contributing to the greater good of society. That to me is PURPOSE. Not contributing to another man's pocket through capitalism and consumerism.

Of course there are, and a lot of charities and humanitarian organizations need business people to do administration, accounting, fundraising, etc. And everyone needs MONEY so if you have a job and can support yourself and afford to give then that is also a big service.

What do you see as the biggest problems of society right now? In what ways would you like to contribute to the greater good?

Since you asked... I really and truly see our western culture and society on a fast track to disaster. If I had it my way, I would contribute to the destruction of capitalism and consumerism.... but we are a long way from that... For now I would like to teach children, anything. The problem is that i need money to live...and teaching doesnt exactly answer all of one's problems. I need a new job... not something on the side...I have no time for it, because of the way our society is built. we need money to live and consume. We live to consume things. I don't want that. There is more to life,..at least I think there is.... Other than teaching, I would love to be a counsler... or a mentor to a child... THat is until I can destroy the current social framework we live in.... lol thanks for responding

I also love education, personally I think we are headed towards having more and more educational materials available on the internet, for children or for anyone. I think the whole teacher-in-a-classroom model is becoming outdated, it is not adaptable enough, and some model where every child will have the resources to follow her own interests will replace it.

I have 2 young kids now (5 & 3) and there's already tons of sites that we are interested in. Especially I would like to contribute to more educational games, sites that hold kids' interest by being in a games format while teaching something useful. Educational videos are great, too. I'm working on my own site that will provide flashcards for kids at mooneleaf.com/flashcards, but that's been sort of on hold since I got my new job. The good thing is that my job is doing web application development so I feel that I am being paid to develop skills that will help me towards implementing my passion.

Anyways, I think there are some child mentoring programs available and they do not take too much time... the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program is only 4 hours a month.
