I ran across something like this that Steve said in one of the threads: "I realized that I wasted years doing something that needs not be done. [by game producing] Just because it sucks doesn't change the fact that you did waste huge amount of time one bit." I can't find it though. Do anyone remember which thread it was from? It was so impressive I want to read it again. |

| The way that a child learns to walk is by constantly falling down. People learn by making their own mistakes. The Bhagavad Gita, that has gotten high praise by many American writers, says that if you do a right thing following someone else's advice then it was the wrong thng to do since you did not learn from it. But if you follow what you think that you should do, even though it was wrong, it was right for you since you learned from it. I read that thread mentioned about Steve doing 4 years of college in 1 year. I say "to each his own." I live near U of Penn and drove a cab for years. I talked to many female Penn students there from all over the country. It is one of the 8 Ivy League colleges. Harvard was the first college in the country, but UPenn was the first university (more than one college-- they have 12 colleges now) in the country when they created the first medical school in the country. These students told me that UPenn was known as the most social school of all the Ivy League colleges. They did not love their teachers or their schoolwork, but loved the experience they had with other students. Their families are glad that they graduated but they are very sad (this is a generalization). They had the most amazing time of their life from these other students, some who were roomates and some in their fraternity. Note that all sororities are fraternities but not all fraterities are sororities. All waitresses are waiters but not all waiters are waitresses. Many of them will get married and not need to earn any money since their husbands will do that. Many of the college friends will become friends for life. Unlike Steve Pavlina, Bill Gates dropped out of college. But he had friends there that dropped out with him and they run Microsoft. Two guys were in graduate school and they dropped out together to create Google. |
