Default What you want is who you are

I believe that the best way to judge a person is by what they want, because actions don't always reflect intentions and thoughts are always changing, and contradicting, and being misunderstood.

So I made a list of the things I want, it was a really good exercise for me, I thought maybe some other people would want to try it.

Here's mine, and how they've changed in the last six months:

I believe who you are is defined by what you want. [Still true]

I want to wake up feeling the same way I did yesterday. [Still very true]

I want to never give up on anyone, ever. [I can accept that sometimes people need distance, but I’ll never be the one to turn my back completely]

I want to bring out the best in everyone I meet. [I’m doing a terrible job of this and it makes me very sad]

I want every single day to improve me in some way. [Days have become so unrealistic; I don’t even improve each month anymore. I feel so digressive]

I want to be more intelligent. [I feel educated. Not necessarily intelligent]

I want to be more motivated. [I could always use more motivation, but my GPA this semester was higher than it ever was in high school]

I want to want to succeed. [I don’t know what I want to succeed at]

I want to know what pressure feels like. [Check]

I want to be given an ultimatum. [Check]

I want to be held to a standard. [Still waiting]

I want that standard to always rise just before I get comfortable. [Well I’m certainly not comfortable if that’s any reflection]

I want to understand. [Still waiting]

I want to grow up, learn responsibility and independence. [Check]

I want to stay a kid forever. [Very much not check. Childhood is over]

I want to be told I'm unforgettable. [Check]

I want to know, beyond reasonable doubt, that someone has my best interest in mind. [Still waiting]

I want to know what's right and wrong. [Still waiting]

I want to be needed. [Check. It’s not like I imagined it]

I want to say what I mean, and mean what I say. [If only I knew what I meant]

I want to want these things until the day I realize I have them. [I stopped wanting most of them, or at least focusing on wanting them. Maybe that’s my problem]

And some new ones:

I want to be a vegetarian

I want to be able to balance alternatives and make intelligent decisions quickly

I want to have a direction for my education, or accept that traditional education is not my direction

I want to release all the resentment I have for people in my life

I want to learn a skill that few people have

I want to know where to go from here

I want to feel uniquely designed for a specific purpose again

I want to feel called by a higher power

I want to learn how to relate to the mainstream without lowering myself to their standards

Sir why don't you try this.

Choose one of these goals which you think is the most priority and think about it all the time till you get it. I find LOA works faster for me this way keeping my mind focused on that one thing then when it arrives I move on.

Desire and technique ^^

Funny -- when I read the title of this thread I thought, Right On! That's all you need to know. But reading the OP, I see that you don't mean it the way I read it. Oh, well!

And it's true: what you want is who you are, although it might better be expressed: who you are is what you want.

What I mean is: if you examine all your wants for the true heart's desire that lies underneath them, those true heart's desires are already yours -- not just something you have, but something you actually ARE, right here, right now -- and the "desire" process is the fun game of unconcealing that to yourself.

Sure, you can mess around and play with the signposts -- the "goals" and surface desires -- it's fun! And you can also cut out the middle man and go straight for what you want to have, and go ahead and generate it -- BE it (that is, notice more and more that it already exists as you in infinite abundance).

I love it! What you want is who you are. Not exactly what you meant, I don't think, but a beautifully succinct statement. Thanks!

Forgive that I re-arranged your "list" abit.

Now, go find someone, to help you achieve all these. God Bless you!

This is an 'AHA' post for me. I can't add any other comment then that this made an impact. Thank you so much Angela.

I'm so glad, Ray! By the way, two of my heart's desires are Vitality and Power, and your fitness website is inspiring on both counts. I'll be taking the "V-Sit" with me into the gym this morning.

lol... If you want some real kicks, try the v-sit on the Bosu, (the half swiss ball just in case we call it something different here up north :-) ) curved side up. THEN, you can do your dumbbell curls in the same v-sit balanced position as well... I'd better stop...

Why don't I just go do SEALS training, Ray? I'm having heart palpitations just thinking about it. I'm going back to bed.
