Hi all, I've been trying to discover my purpose in life for a long while now with little success. I'd be interested to here what indicators each of you have that you've found your purpose. I mean both you lucky lucky people who have found it and those who're still on the path. Here's a few ideas I've had:

Not only waking up excited about the coming day but also - > Finding yourself feeling excited about life both randomly/spontaneously and the other way around throughout each day. Not only feeling a connection to fellow humans and all life but also - > Finding yourself being grateful for all fellow humans and all life, no matter what has happened; good or bad. To some it may seem like I'm only repeating what Richful had already said but from my point of view it's not exactly the same thing. The most important point that you brought up however, according to me, was: When one is congruent with oneself and is being accepting and grateful to one's purpose, that's when one feels truly blessed with what they have been given. It's wonderful, really. We have already been given all that we need to live happily: ourselves. Be, and you will feel alive.

I think Eckhart Tolle in "A New Earth" refers to connectedness to NOW as our primary pupose in life and secondary is what we wish to do in the world. However, i think (therfore I'm confused) that if we are Being ourselves our purpose will be a pure expression of us. Sounds all very easy on paper (err... electrons), yet to reach that state of being.

| songwriter, it may go deeper than that, but still be strongly connected to your music. I believe I read somewhere in the articles of this forum that, in order to gain greater awareness on our life's purpose, we need to write...and write.. and write... and we know we've come closer to discovering it when we become so emotional that we begin to weep. |

But I want to remind everyone that just because I've found my purpose and cause in life, does NOT mean I feel this way all the time. Example: Right now, I'm at work, visiting this message board instead of typing up the minutes from the last board meeting my organization had. It's one of those rare "boring" moments I've had during this job. Most of the time, I feel wonderful about work, but right now is not one of those moments.

| I think it evolves, but I don't think it does a 180-degree change. My purpose is making dreams real. My cause is mental health. Give me a reasonable dream inside of the realm of mental health, and I'll get the resources and people together to make it happen. That's what I do. And I love it. However, finding my purpose hasn't been all roses. It takes work, and it involves tasks and people with which I'm not too thrilled, but that's just life. I seriously doubt anyone loves their career choice all the time, even when it's part of their purpose. |

I've found, that since the discovery of my purpose, my prayers have taken on a "bubbling up" effect, of joy. I start to say my prayers, and suddenly a joyous happines bubbles up from my heart, and it has caused blocks to open up, and suddenly flow free. |

| ... a lot of people doesn't wake up feeling excited since they have to commute to work, stay at work for most of the day and then commute back home. Does that mean that a normal job equals not having found your purpose or is it just a matter of your attitude to that normal job? |

The purpose of humanity may be to ultimately realize enlightenment, but, does that exclude the possibility that each individual also has an unique quality that only they can exercise remarkably over all other things and derive absolute happiness from? (and beyond their body, if there is indeed a afterlife?) For me, I am yet to understand what my purpose is, on a personal level. I feel as if i'm too much of a generalist, so don't feel strongly drawn to any one thing. Maybe the answer lies within my perceived conflict? It could be that I must combine all the things that I have great interest for, or, follow many somehow. Does anyone else feel this tug-of-war of passions? Also, another thing that comes to mind. Maybe we're all aware of our purpose so clearly on a subconcious level that we do things throughout our whole lives that act as 'signs' pointing to what we resonate with (or, if you believe in destiny, you have found that all the events within your life were meant to happen in which to compel you of your purpose). It's said that if you find your purpose, you can always find a way in which to make a living from it. What if its of a profession that is yet to exist? I suppose you would be the one to bring it into the world. It maybe just comes down to trying as many things as possible (and doing alot of soul-searching) in which to find what makes you truely passionate.

| I had the same problem but Steve's article Purpose = Permanent Message + Temporary Medium helped. For me, I find that after finding my purpose, a lot of doors opened up. Or at least it felt like it. Things I never paid much attention to before suddenly became resources to help me along. I felt like solutions to old doubts and worries/problems began to pop up seemingly out of nowhere. Like the universe was encouraging me along. |

When you are one with your purpose, time almost stops and you're allowed to be at peace while at the same time laced with passion. It's just a wonderful feeling. Everything you do aligns with your purpose and it becomes your whole life. And it does evolve over time, at least the medium does, as Steve points out, but it's evolving for the better, to be more in vibrational harmony with your real purpose, your all-encompassing one. And you see over time that it will evolve to an even greater degree. Joy will be the obvious consequence. EnJOY the journey!

I'm really glad to see this thread is still going. It seems to have shifted from my original intent but the content is better anyway Quote:
I've considered quitting well paying jobs if they won't let me have the time off I want. I have the potential to use underhanded tactics to get what I want, but I have an overriding desire to achieve my aims without knowingly harming anyone, which keeps me honest. I see life purpose as the strongest desire in life, if you want it bad nothing will stop you.

asking what our life purpose is is like asking what is the meaning of life. there is no meaning of life. there is only awareness of life. any meaning is added by ourselves and is not real. so in essence, life is meaningless and so is our purpose. once you realise this you can make your purpose anything you want it to be. i suppose the indications of this would be immense joy, freedom and peace since you will know that you are limitless.
