I had an idea today when I impulsively bought a guitar from eBay. I recently put up an Amazon Wish List on my blog (link's in my signature) and I was thinking "what if I actually did get everything on the list?" I wouldn't have room in my house for everything so I want to hold a giveaway for some of the items. It's kinda hard to clearly phrase what I want to do this year, but I'll give it a shot: I want to give and receive things for both my birthday (December 7th) and for Christmas. I already posted in my blog about it, but what should I do to really get this thing off the ground? I'm excited to be able to help people and get something in return, but at the same time, I'm trying not to come off as a selfish bastard or a shameless internet panhandler. |

You know what is fun ? This is this gift game you play at holiday parties. Some call it a Chinese Gift Exchange but I am not sure. Everyone brings one (pre-owned) item from their home, quickly wrapped up but not necessarily tagged who it's from. Each person puts their name in a bowl, and the host picks a name. That person picks one of the wrapped items. They unwrap it and everyone gets to see. The host draws person #2's name and he/she picks something off the gift table. Item is unwapped. If #2 likes their gift, they keep it. If #2 likes #1 gift, #1 has to swap. Then #3 picks, unwraps, and possibly takes gift #1 or #2 and so on. The idea is you get rid of an object you don't want, people have fun swapping, and everyone goes home with something new. Another thing that's catching on among some people is re-gifting. If the object is in great shape, why not give it as a gift to someone else, if you think the person would really like it? |
