In this thread post, I brainstormed about my purpose, and I found out my specific purpose, which is this: "To produce quality work that helps people with mental illnesses graduate from college in such a way that is enjoyable and profitable for me." My question is, can I figure out my general purpose from my more specific one? If so, then what is my general purpose? Can anyone give me any pointers for my more general purpose, in case my specific purpose doesn't work out? |

A general purpose would be "My purpose is to improve the quality of life for all the people i come in contact with" Of course you would make it apply to yourself i just made this up on the fly. You know your on the right track when your specific purposes / goals align with your bigger general purpose. |

I like life purposes that have a fantasy element. It makes life fun (because I think the root purpose of life is to enjoy it). Yours could be one of these: "to protect and save the weak" "to rescue and revitalize the helpless" "to perform miracles, including resurrecting the dead" "to save mankind" Notice it has the hero fantasy "Superman", "Messiah" element. You may even pick an imaginary name for yourself like "the Archangel" that represents your role and brings up the feelings that are associated with your life purpose. My intuition tells me the 3rd one is the most suitable. |

1) Money, a way to support myself 2) The satisfaction of making a difference in others' lives 3) Improved ability to write articles and speak in public forums 4) The knowledge that I helped people avoid my mistakes and helped them enjoy even better successes than I did in college I bolded the ones that I considered the most general purpose-like.

I actually like the second one best, but I would rewrite it a bit. "to revitalize the helpless, and to inspire the hopeless"
