Careers for the Greater Good

Hello - For the first time I am considering a career switch out of the defense industry and to dedicate my life to the greater good (I got this out of reading Steve's book). Here are some ideas. Please feel free to add more.

Careers and employment that do serve the greater good:
Renewable energy – alcohol, solar hydrogen, solar collection, wind power
Bio-cleanup – cattails that naturally clean waste water, alcohol production from cattail cellulose
Organic food production, nutrition promotion, non-polluting distribution, Permaculture, eco-farming
No cost, no-equipment, Fitness instruction
Helping senior citizens, move, lifting, fix & repair things in homes, etc.
Public speaking; Teaching personal responsibility and development; overcome fears
Real banking with value backed currency or bartering/trading value
Self contained non-polluting community development, bike transportation
Cooperative home building, farming, renewable energy producing communities
Collective sharing of housing, food, equipment, labor, education, peaceful living
Small, low energy, self sufficient homes – off grid, homesteads
Air quality and air clean up with hydrogen internal combustion engines.
Garbage reduction, recycling efforts, waste reduction
Tree planting, reforestation, forest sustainability and expansion
Non-polluting, Public transportation
Spiritual healing and moral living, ethical honest example setter
Real representative government of the people, by the people, for the people
Information sharing internet, free from advertisement but for sharing of information for the greater good
Water purification, rainwater collection, water recycling, water distribution systems
Promoter of artistic and musical self expression
Promoter of hope rather than purveyor of lies and fear
Independent public broadcasting to intelligently inform, free from corporate sponsorship
Freedom, rights, and liberties reform
Voluntary taxation system where you can choose where your tax dollars will go – charity.
Weather resistant, hurricane proof communities
Natural health, spiritual healing, natural remedies
Real freedom and liberation to those with chemical addictions and dependencies
Investing in yourself, self sufficiency, individual value creation rather than stock market casino where the house wins
Helping others to realize the infinite beings we really are
Converting weapons of war into “plowshares” that promote peace
Doing Byron Katie's "The Work" – foster sanity in relationships, careers, finances and reality
Living off the land, survival skills, being one with nature
Education of children in personal development skills, relationship skills, finance skills, sustainability skills, environmentalism, hope, sharing, benefits of peaceful economy based on sharing and honoring the land we live on.

Hi Dave. I think it's really admirable that you want to serve the greater good. Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer by way of advising you wrt which career to choose in terms of lightworking. I'll pass along this quote from Frederick Buechner: The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.

Good luck! You won't need it though. With an intention like yours, you're going to be just fine!

PS: If you don't believe in God or a higher anything, just replace that part with "your heart" or something else that resonates with you.
