There is a tendency for mine to either become too general, or for them to be too convoluted and specific. Right now mine is To be an example for others that you can overcome any obstacle and achieve anything you want in life if you set your mind to it. But as a part of my weekly review process, I am constantly refining it. |

It seems our life purposes often change a lot, depending on who we've become and how we've grown. I love using the levels of consciousness model, it seems to really map out the "path" of conscious growth, so to speak. Right now mine is to reach enlightenment and help all others along the way. |

| My purpose in life is to grow and realize my full potential: To completely know, love and accept myself, and leave this world a better person, at peace with my self and my life. I am uncomfortable with the fact that "choosing" your purpose is so arbitrary. I recently spent over half and hour doing Steve's exercise, and kept coming back to "grow" in various forms. But no tears. Then I decided to take a short break, because I couldn't come up with anything else. I listened to the first podcast, which, as fate would have it, was all about growth. THAT had me crying for most of it, so I figured that I sort of met the "crying" criteria, and this is what I came up with. |

The underlying theme of being ok with who we are seems to be a big one. Self love, acceptance. So many of us have been taught to NOT be ok with who we are, .. here is mine. To trust and believe in myself, be ok with myself, live whatever life I can imagine, accept my greatness, experience complete personal freedom and help others have all of these things. |

I honestly believe that my purpose is to be a mother. All of my life I have had a passion for children. To love them, to teach them, to have fun with them. If I can be a good wife, mother and writer as well, I believe I will be fulfilling my purpose. |

I did Steve's life purpose exercise, and ended up with To experience the joy of having no limits on life, consciously present with ultimate freedom, and inspire others to follow this path You can read how I got there at Scott Desgrosseilliers: Finding My Life Purpose |

If you consider an Earthly sense of purpose, it may be misleading to assume you have an over-riding life purpose, unless its basic survival. Over and above that, you are constantly changing and learning, so its only logical that your driving force (passion) will evolve with you. Consider your different life phases, singlehood, partnership, marriage, family; different phases of your work life, spiritual or religious life and other meaningful pursuits that give your life added value. All of it shapes your a perceived purpose in this lifetime. For instance, if you fall seriously ill, the most significant motivation will likely be to concentrate on healing or living your life to the fullest for as much time as you have left. If you have children, and they become your focus as they grow up, your evolving purpose may be to find a way to live in a secure area and give them opportunities for education, health care and the chance to make contributions to society. If you discover creative talents, part of your purpose would likely be to search out outlets to shape that side of you. if you discover scientific or athletic ability, then your purpose would be further clarified by developing those areas of yoruself which give you pleasure. If you choose to devote yourself to a life concerning a God or Higher Forces, then your life choices will gain meaning that way. A purpose appears to be the result of making choices which contribute to your sense of happiness and completeness. This may involve some of things Steve Pavlina describes including, freedom, the ability to inspire or motivate others, or, maybe purpose is simply to exist while you can as best you can using whatever resources you detect inside yourself and around you? This would also bring in increasing self-awareness. Last edited by Liara Covert; 04-06-2007 at 06:08 AM. |

Michael Chui, I saw your name on this thread and was hoping to see you post what you've declared as your purpose in life! Would you please tell me what yours is? Inquiring minds want to know, when it's someone as thoughtful and well-spoken as you! Mine is: To boldly generate and facilitate free-flowing love and joy. |

Hehe. I never did Steve's exercise, nor have I ever really written it down, so you may as well consider this a draft as much as anything. My purpose in this life is to act as a catalyst for change in all people, including myself, through understanding, compassion, and glimpses into a vision of a future utopia ever on the horizon. |

My life purpose? In fact it's quite "narrow" for me. I don't go for world peace or inspire the whole nation etc etc You get the idea? I work towards my goals of providing my parents a comfortable life when they retire. They don't need to worry about money anymore. I would like my future wife to have a choice of whether she wants to work or not. She can choose not to work for her whole life and I can still provide her financially. Simple as that. Period. |

Honestly, I'm still searching. I tried Steve's exercice, but it didn't really work for me. As for now, even though I'm still thinking about it, I have come up with something along the lines of: "Making people feel good" If you make people feel good, they get cheerful, and that vibe flows around, and more people feel good... Like a chain reaction or something. Also, I tend to find that people are more receptive, more open, and accomplish greater things when they feel good. Plus, you made someone feel good, so you feel good about that... However, that is a great challenge for me, as I'm an introverted and have a tendancy to be shy... So I have to work on that in order to get around my "purpose" of the moment! |
