Default Weak mindedness

/rant mode on

I dunno what's going on. I had a bunch of friends (really acquaintances) from work over my house for a BBQ tonight. We were pretty much chillin on the deck, listening to music, eating burgers and drinking beer, when all of a sudden something REALLY SCARY happens. We hear thunder in the distance. <cue horror music> All of sudden everyone starts panicking and getting all paranoid and literally within 10 minutes everyone left. I was like "Are you serious!!?? You're leaving because it MIGHT rain?" And they're like "Yeah, I don't wanna have to drive in the rain!!" I ain't really complaining because they left like 20 something beers over my house, but still. That is some seriously weak minded wussyness. And it didn't even end up raining. People get paranoid and run home because of a possibility.. And even if it did rain, we could always chill in the house until it passed or whatever. Either these guys are lunatics or they seriously are petrified of driving in rain. I can't imagine what they're like in the winter when it snows, or even MIGHT snow. I'm sorry but each day that passes I lose more and more faith in the human race. This mentality of fearing weather, I just can't understand. I've driven in hurricanes and blizzards before. As long as you are careful and know how your car responds, it is really not that hard. Weak minded people everywhere. The true definitely of sheeple.

/rant over

:banghead:

What is causing people to be so weak minded? Is it TV? Is it the news and fear tactics within?

If they are from work, is it possible they just came to show their face, didn't really want to be there and left at the earlier excuse?

Or that they saw the person who was the most fun, most enjoyable left, so they decided to all follow that person and leave?

Just asking.

Ah, the "it's raining, I have to leave" excuse.

It's merely an excuse. Of course they know how to drive in rain - does rain stop people from coming into work, or leaving at the end of work?

They just wanted to leave and do something else. But they were trying to be polite about it.

Lol, I have serious doubts about that. We were eating good food and having a great time, but the mood instantly shifted as soon as that thunder rolled. It was almost surreal. The point of the thread was really pondering why people have this fear of weather. It's not like last night was the first time I've seen it. It happens whenever it's raining and I am picking up groceries. Like 30 people or so will be huddled under the awning, terrified of getting wet and waiting for someone to pick them up. I'll just casually stroll into the rain and walk to my car and they look at me like I'm the crazy one. What causes this mentality to be so widespread?

Wow, I never experienced something like that. When people come here to have a nice time in the garden and it starts to rain then we just go inside or sit under the awning on the terrace. Nobody here is terrified by having to drive in the rain.
How late was it at the time they left? Maybe it was late so that they wanted to go home anyway?

If only we could see their thoughts and emotions, then we would know and we wouldn't be having this conversation

Maybe you think they are weak-minded, when they simply have a negative association to the weather.

^To me, that exactly IS weak minded. The dumbed down masses who can't handle basic tasks and drastically alter their plans because it MIGHT rain. Living in fear is no way to live life. The better word to describe it is paranoia.

It was like 9:30 or so. Usually when I hang out with that crowd, we're up to like 2 am or so. It really didn't bother me THAT much, since I got a crapload of free beer, it really just makes me wonder what causes this paranoia. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be becoming more and more widespread. Is it because the weather channel and the news makes such a big deal out of "bad" weather? I'm guessing these are the same people that rush to the store and stock up on supplies every time a snow storm comes.

Ah, but I like to have these friends. One time I was stuck in my apartment for a week because of a snowstorm. My favorite neighbors were the ones with extra toilet paper.
