A few days ago I wrote down that message on my computer. Since then it became the only thing I could think about. I am doing things wrong. I am not doing the things that I I want to do. I do not know *how* to do the things that I want to do. I do not know what to do to make things right. What should I do? |

Steve! You just made my day. I found myself heading down the wrong path and I did exactly that, I stopped. Dead stop. But I don't know what to do now |

Yep, I just did this recently. I knew for a while that I should stop and go down another path, but I was afraid, so I kept going. Often, though, the more you try to go down a wrong path, the more difficult it becomes to continue. It feels a lot better once you stop!

The moment I accepted that I would no longer walk that path, I immediately started to feel better. It was like a giant mountain of needless stress and worry was taken off my shoulders. So now, even though I have no damn clue what I'm going to do next, I'm going to make sure that it's the rightest thing I've ever done. Besides, I do know what I really want, it's just a matter of making what I want, happen. | |

| Learning how to do the things you want to do is a piece of cake. It's knowing how not to do the things that you don't want to do that is the hard part, because not doing them is not enough if you just replace doing them with thinking about not doing them. The thing to remember is this; you don't exist because of the things you want, the things you want exist because of you.

After you stop heading in the wrong direction, step 2 is to look around you and notice what fresh desires are calling you. It will likely be something that excites you and scares you at the same time. If you can't think of anything, then just lie in bed scrolling through your imagination until you happen upon some ideas that captivate you and which you really enjoy thinking about in detail. Spend a lot of time thinking about these desires. It's perfectly okay to spend hours at a time just daydreaming about them. Just be sure these desires really stir you and that they aren't just socially conditioned notions like money and possessions. When you feel ready, take an action step in that direction. If you feel good after taking a little action, take some more action, and keep going. If you can tell it's the wrong direction, stop moving forward and go imagine something else. One of the worst mistakes you can make is noticing that you're going the wrong way and continuing to coast. When you see that happening, hit the brakes -- hard. Otherwise you may keep coasting right to your own funeral, wondering where your whole life went. When you hit the brakes in your life, I guarantee that other people will honk at you. They'll shout expetives. They'll call you crazy and treat you like a total nutter. Years later those same people will ask you to help them break free of their own destructive patterns. Regardless of what they originally thought about your decision to shift gears, in the long run they'll notice that you're happy and fulfilled. And you'll be able to help them from a place of empathy. You aren't just making this change for yourself. A lot of other people are counting on you. They need you to succeed, so you can turn around and teach them how you did it. |

wow thats awesome steve. I know what I want to do and I even know some things that I can be doing to achieve it. Yet... I haven't put on the brakes to stop and change direction. It seems pretty obvious to me now lol. Thanks! |

[QUOTE=You aren't just making this change for yourself. A lot of other people are counting on you. Though I am currently "OK" with where I am at, things can always be improved upon. I guess I have never really looked at it from the point of view of someone who desperately needs me to succeed, so that I can help them. Thought provoking. Well done. |
