Smile Need tips on writing a Personal Mission Statement

Just need some tips on writing a good statement that is powerful and can be memorized. So far I've written a draft and its bit too long. Also I'm wondering should I write down the statements in present or past tense?

Here is my "Code". I like it so far, however I read that the best ones are more specific and less generally. Meaning they have quantifiable goals and deadlines but to me that sounds more like a Life Plan rather than a Personal Mission Statement.

The Code
"I swear an Oath that I will live life to the Fullest. I vow to Prosper in Knowledge, Health, Friendships and Money so that I will be wealthy in all aspects of my Life.”

In order to so I will follow these principles;

Duty. I will take my promises and goals very seriously and follow them to the utmost.
Believe. I will expect the best and be confident that everything will turn out good. I will lift my head up whenever I feel down.
CourageCourage. I vow to challenge my fears, knowing there are nothing more than mental barriers to be broken.
Gratitude. I will say my thanks everyday and thank God for letting taste the honey comb that is Life.
Experience. I will travel to all the parts of this great Earth and visit all the terrains and climates. Experience the beauty of this world and bond with the people.
ConsistencyConsistency. I will apply the Code day in and day out. I will read it every single day, once I rise and once before I sleep.

I'm not sure if you mean personal mission statement as "rules" to live your life by or a mission statement as in purpose for life.

For the personal statement, mine is simply "only choose love" At any moment you can choose love or fear. Courage, integrity, honesty etc. is love. Lying, cowardliness, selling out is fear. If I find myself in a situation I'm unsure of, I can ask myself if its love or fear, then choose love.

Take a situation where someone is being a real pain, you simply choose to love them.

if you were talking a mission (purpose) check this out:

hope this helps, cheers!

There's nothing wrong with having principles along with your life purpose. For a powerful, easily memorizable life purpose, I recommend making it as concise as possible, and also to use verbs that inspire you and that give you inspired action. An inspiring life purpose usually encompasses more than just you -- if you were living on purpose, what would you be generating for the world, and for yourself, too, that would have you leaping out of bed in the morning, excited about making a difference (again for yourself and for the world)?

You want it to be something that describes an inspiring future that you are stepping into right now.

Also, I would leave out any "in order to"'s and keep my mission statement purely the path, not the outcome.

I am only brainstorming with you -- how does this strike you:

To boldly recognize, welcome and nurture overflowing abundance for everyone.

Your post brought my attention to my current personal mantra: Be here now.

It's not a mission as in goals and values, but it's pretty powerful. Nothing that has happened in the past and nothing that might happen in the future can bother me if I can just remember to be here now.

The only problem with writing all these goals/character traits that you want to accomplish is that what if you fall short? Then do you beat yourself up? That would be expending extra negative energy over something you cannot change and making war on what is. It is good and fine to have goals that motivate you, but if you attach your happiness to them then there will be suffering.

Lightbulb Focus on Core Values

Greetings!

I would suggest that you first consider what your core values are, and then create a personal mission that matches those core values. Not that you need to use the actual core value words in your mission, but the spirit behind it should be consistent with the meaning that your core values bring to you.

Then again, there is always "The Personal Vision Workbook" :-)

I hope this helps.

Cool

Whew this is very tough for me because I have so many ideas but I am trying to simplify it as much as possible.
Well here is what I wrote;

Believe. Know I can do it
Inspire Lift and lead those around me
Action. Do It!
Grace. Give thanks for what is, what was and what will.
Now is the Time

I am also adding Love Thyself in response to my 30 day trial to darkworking;

The Code

Believe
Know I can do it.

Desire
Make it as great as my desire to Breathe.

Inspire
Lift those around me.

Action
Do It! Now is the Time.

Grace
Give thanks.

Find My Mission.
Find my true values and my calling.

So this is what I have. The last one shows that I will continue to improve my personal mission statement until I make it one that truly reflects my being.
