Hello, everybody I'm one of the student members/director of a developing psychotherapy school. We were recently asked to come up with a wish list for material that would be considered either 'core' (required by all students to do) or 'accessory' (something to do individually, research, splinter group, etc). The school's philosophy will be that the students are largely self-directed (with the exception of certain milestones/core & hour requirements). This leaves a LOT of lee-way for ideas for courses. The school is an outreaching of a process/therapy group that I'm a part of and is already considered FAR left field. Some of the core practices of the school that are in the rough so far: - Deep Diaphragmatic Breathing - 100% Response-ability outlook on life - Weekly practice of yoga or a martial art Some academic work examples: - History of psychotherapy - Overview of a range of different modalities (ex. primal therapy, gestalt, psychodynamic, Jungian analysis, bioenergetic therapy, psychodrama, transactional analysis, provocative therapy) - Exploration of different therapies (ex. art therapy, music therapy, garden therapy, dance therapy) - Selected readings: R. D. Laing, Willheim Reich, Gendlin, Janov, Gurdjeff, Freud, Jung, Alice Miller, Alice Bailey, Hendrix, Hendricks, Stettbacker, David R. Hawkins, Eckhart Tolle and others. Each student has a choice of modes of study: 1. Canvassing for interest among the student body, researching, designing, scheduling and teaching the material of interest (with the approval of the faculty). 2. Canvassing for interest among the student body, applying for funds from the student board of directors, researching, hiring and scheduling a teacher to teach the material of interest (with the approval of the faculty). 3. Applying in-house for a course taught by one of the faculty. 4. Taking a course from outside the School (with the approval of the faculty). So. I'm asking for ideas for ANYTHING that you would think could be either a core or accessory learning aspect for the school, or life experience, or... Aspects: Courses. Books. Selected Readings. Audio. Music. Workshops. Retreats. Experiences. Encounters. Movies. Shows. Locations. (Something else?) If you could think of a way to 'package' it to fit into a school curriculum / teaching / (in)formal structure, that would be great as well. Oh - and if you think this would be better posted in another sub-forum, please let me know/move thread or whatever. I want to get as much idea exposure as possible! My wish list (somewhat organized) so far (sense of humour required): Life & Death Themes: Birth (& conception!) - as a mother, father, assistant (to human or animal). Sex - DO IT! Preferably, WELL. Get education if necessary. Wedding - as family, bride/groom, observer. Life (& living) - spend time in another family's household (common language or no). Birthdays & ceremonies attend various important functions for different cultures, life events, over a span of hosts/peoples lives. Relationships - the 'disaster' relationship, the 'never-ending' relationship, marriage, ideal, etc. (Might be a bit unrealistic.) Stories get life interviews of people of different ages (infant to deathbed senior). Death (& dying) - as an end stage care-giver (palliative care), funeral/accessory worker, body embalmer, funeral observer, anatomy lab/handling a cadaver. Experiences: Dance - learn, dance w/ partner, in front of an audience. Sing - learn, karaoke, in front of an audience. Improv DO! Its improv, baby! Sleep in 18 hours or longer in bed. Long Experiences: A Course In Miracles - 365 day workbook. Sedona Method - apply on a daily basis. TAT/EFT - learn, apply on self. Silent Retreat - go off somewhere (usually in a group) without talking/making verbal noises for time specified. Meditation silent/sitting to more far out forms. Master Cleanse (or other detox) gives different perspective on foodies, health, etc. Make sure your body can handle it prior (MD check, etc). Risk Taking & Extremes: Slap circle/Sparring - get 'beat up' not to the point of physical damage, but just for getting accustomed. Similar things done in martial arts. Gun range - spend some time shooting. Paint ball - get paintballed!!! Motorcycle - passenger or driver. Race car - passenger/driver, race track/Autobahn. Sky diving - WITH a parachute. Drunk - to the "Oh my God I'll never do this again" point. High - unsure of the SPECIFICS, maybe just a peyote ceremony or some such. Emotional provocations - see if others can make you angry, sad, happy, etc, to EXTREMES. Isolation chamber similar to that done in prisons (perhaps a bit more comfy, though). Floatation sensory deprivation chamber float chambers. Tickled - laughing to point of pain. Water/psychological torture - stuck in room w/ bright lights & same song going endlessly, sleep deprivation, etc. Sleeplessness going without sleep for a longer than normal period of time. Streaking maybe while drunk. Or high. Or sleepless? (Yes, I am crazy. Thank you.) Kill animal/fish - for foodies. Then EAT IT. (Cooked! Badly, maybe.) Hot air balloon go for a ride. No washing tolerance of you (& others!) for how long you can go without washing. Blind walking/guiding have someone being your seeing eyes; total trust in them to guide you. Cave spelunking go cave-ing! In a cave-a! With a light-a! Mountain/cliff climbing to the summit. And then roar! ROAR! Extreme weather storm/tornado chasing, center of a hurricane, etc. Courses/Workshops: Reiki 1 widely accepted, quick taught energy healing program. Being a client: Massage - receive a full body relaxation massage. Chiro - get an assessment & adjustment. Exercise Specialist - get a tailored program. Nutritionist - get an assessment of your diet, allergies, and possible beneficial changes. Energy worker - Reiki, Brennan Healing Sciences, etc, treatment. Psychic tarot/future reading, etc. Psychologist evaluation through charts, questionnaires, etc. I also have an idea for getting music from as many levels of consciousness (RE: David R. Hawkins Level of Consciousness chart, Power Vs. Force & other titles) and have listening to that progression and commenting. Some also potential ideas behind the psychology/mindset of pick up artists, tantra, sexual polarity, etc. Lotsa alternate structures out there! |
