Question Which values to guide me when I choose my job?

I'm going to have two job offers to choose from by Monday. My decision is going to come down to what values I let guide my decision.

Value #1 - I should pick a job that's overall goal is something I believe in.

Value #2 - I should pick a job that I would be best at.

I can't decide what to do here. One company I feel works in a better field, the other I would be much better at. Should I just try to do the best job I can? Should I reserve value #1 for my personal life? I don't know how to pick what job. Keeping in mind that the jobs are in very different sectors and will start the ball rolling on keeping me in whatever sector I pick.

Thanks

Nobody can answer this question for you without signifcantly more detail. Even then it's your life. If it was me I'd ask myself what story to I want my life to tell and which job is going to be a part of that?

decent answer...

i think value 1 is best. if it's a good cause that you believe in, especially if it helps people... go for value 1. nobody will hear your life story after you're dead, but there's a chance people will remember you for the good things you've done. plus, you'll feel good about yourself in the process.

Hi FreedomClub.

Here's a great article by Steve in which he addresses precisely this issue. Here it the link: Career Planning and here is another one he wrote on clarifying your values:
Living Your Values, Part I by Steve Pavlina

Cheers

Default Follow Your Gut

Follow your gut, not your intellect. It sounds like this is a very important decision for you.

If you follow your intellect you'll likely analyze everything to death, weighing out this benefit to that benefit, and you may go insane.

Try following your gut. Do what feels right.

I hope that helps.

I think you should do the job you enjoy the most. If you spend your days having a good time, the rest will follow naturally.
