Default Purposelessness, Emptiness, Lack of Motivation - help?

I just feel so unmotivated and empty. I have stuff to do like homework, applications, practice speech.. but I just don't feel like doing anything. I feel like I'm not living. I want to go to different places, talk to people. I don't want to do all these solitary activities.

I want to learn to sing. I want to become better at speech and debate. But I don't want to practice speech alone.

I want to go out there and do things.

I feel so empty. College, everyone's so concerned with classes, but classes don't interest me much. I've been there, done that, and I'm able to do well without worrying about classes much. I want something more. I would totally make speech and debate the focus of my life, but the club itself caters to academically-focused people with meetings once a week. And practicing by myself is not what I'm looking for.

People seem so satisfied with doing homework, small talk, Internet surfing, and television. I don't watch tv. I can't find voice lessons. I read, but I want to go out there and do things! I don't know what though.

But I want to do things with people, not by myself so much.

I just keep falling into this feeling of emptiness, purposelessness, and I don't know what to do.

Any advice?

If you're really into speech, I would recommend maybe joining Toastmasters International. Also, research debate clubs or speaking clubs in your local area. Google can do wonders for that.

Ultimately, it sounds like you're suffering from a serious case of boredom. We have to find balance between what we love to do and what we feel we should do.

I recommend listening to Steve's Podcast #20, creative self-expression. It has some great insight into finding a balance in your passion, talents, needs and contribution.
