Needs - Earn money and support parents Abilities - Can read fast, can code in java, can learn new things fast, ( studied electrical engineering but not perfectly) Desires - Best one - 1.research on synthetic plants ( generate chlorophyll and use it for generating energy, emulate a plant synthetically ) -- this thought comes sporadically, never really given it a good thought though but only honorable goal which can help human civilization in a big way. 2.Learn the following things: fast calculations, learn sanskrit, understand vedas, learn some games (TT), help people grow and be happy, read lot of novels, watch lot of movies, travel to exotic locations, make every child go to school some or the other way, make people understand the value of education, to have a big castle like house with lawns and gardens and pools. How can I proceed towards my purpose as my purpose is not clear at all.. Please help Last edited by shootingstar; 11-01-2007 at 08:57 AM. Reason: Not complete |

Welcome to the forums, shootingstar! Most of what you have mentioned falls under the categories of interests and goals. Purpose is much broader and can be fulfilled in different ways. For example, if you decide your purpose is to bring music into the world, you can do this by being a songwriter, a music teacher, a music therapist, or a choir director. If your purpose is to heal people, you can do this by being a psychologist, a doctor, a chiropractor, or a harpist. While I saw no overriding purpose to connect all of your interests, here are some ideas: To apply my technical knowledge to improve people’s quality of life. To apply my technical knowledge to bring enjoyment to people's lives. To share practical information with the world. To promote cultural understanding through entertainment. To extract the human experience and filter it [by creating movies or by writing]. To promote learning. By the way, I haven't figured out my purpose, either. ... |

I really liked Steve's article http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...g-congruently/ where he asked these 4 questions: * What do you want to do? (desire) * What can you do? (ability) * What should you do? (purpose) * What must you do? (need) Could you break down your interests into those categories (some might be in more than 1 category). That might help you to see where the overlaps are and so more likely to be your purpose rather than just interests. One thing that i found helpful in my coaching session was that I just needed to decide on my next step. Maybe the thing I would do / be hadn't even been invented yet and I would need to invent it. So if that is the case you can't say 'my life purpose is to be x' because no-one has ever been x before! You are going to be the pioneer! |

Thanks for the replies. @ Pegasus - The suggestions you have given are really helpful. I will try to build on them. @ Holistic Star: What I have said are my desires, needs, purpose and abilities. I will try to see where I can be a pioneer..! Thanks. |

We are all different, but I'll tell you what I'd do. I hope its some use, if not, ignore it. I'd write it down, condense it to a couple of paragraphs. I'd work on it on the computer, until I had it right, then write the final draft by by hand. It would be written in the most expressive, exciting way I could muster. Then I would find a meaningfull picture to stick on the page, and laminate it. Every day I would read it, or at least one paragraph, even sentence. Then I would use visualising, incorporating humour, imagination, out of the ordinary attention capturing events, and involve my senses and emotions in it. Mine would be changed regularly. One might be; I'm having a nap in my dream home, powered by my synthetic plant panels, just loving the contentment. I can vaguely hear my parents splashing in the pool, and as I drift in and out, I feel awesome that I am able to care for them. Next thing, I am being shaken awake, water splashing all over me, and its my parents, waking me up, because they want me to adjust the pool temperature. As I reluctantly give in, making my way to the pool control centre, my mother is nagging me about sleeping too much, and I can't stop laughing about my dream come true. Shrill screaming for help is coming from the pool, and we all rush out, to see Bill Gates floundering around in the pool. Turns out he has come to personally meet the inventor of the amasing plant panels, and has slipped, and fallen in the pool. My parents are carrying on trying to dry him off, and proudly bragging about me and my invention. A dripping wet Gates, has a sopping wet offer he wanted me to look over, but its unreadable, so invites us all to come and stay with him, so he can talk to me about all sorts of amasing things he would like to do in partnership with me. That would be my encompassing picture. Any things, or steps, popping up would receive individual visualisations. As an umbrella overseeing the whole thing, my whole being, I would daily hand it all over, surrender to Oneness, Spirit, God, whatever you like to call it, trusting the outcome and directions. |

The process I'd use to find my purpose is to take all the things you've listed and continously apply the question "why is this important for me?" or you can start with "why do i like doing it" for simple activities. For each thing on the list you will get a reason. Apply the same question to this reason. If you do this exercise you should notice certain things. First of all it will become harder to go with each step. You will soon run out of obvious answers. You might have difficulty to find words to describe what you are feeling. Take your time. It may take 15-20 minutes to find the next answer on the upper levels. Secondly, as you repeat the exercise with several items you will see that the reasons to do different things will start to converge to a few ones. Usually it is no more than 5. And they will have very abstract things like Oneness... You may not get all the way to the end, but you will see what lies behind your wishes, needs etc. It may not be your purpose, but it will be your values. And values do reflect your purpose accurately enough, so when you act on your values you act aligned with your purpose. In time you'll be able to verbalize your purpose as a motto. I don't think that it is important. I keep my purpose very abstract on the word level, but very specific on the image\feeling\state level. And I know how the things I do or want are connected with the purpose. Leads to integrity. |

What a good question... I never seriously thought about 'the purpose'? I have just been going along the flow all this while. I am happy and contented though, yet i guess if i give it a serious thought i could perhaps enhance my life. Pegasus: i am working on your suggestion. its not leading me to anything clear yet but i am working on it Rose of Cairo: thanks for the recommendation. i have downloaded the ebook and will be reading it very soon. i am very excited about it. Ilya: thanks for pointing out 'oneness' and 'lead to integrity'. i will explore it out. Thanks folks. Keep it coming. Last edited by hollowman; 11-05-2007 at 01:12 PM. |
