Default Personal Development Experiment - Values

At All About Emotional Intelligence for Business, Education, Families, and Personal & Professional Development there is a tool called a digital value sorter. It asks you 90 questions and gives you a written report on your values and how your values may influence your future.

This tool is for personal development by increasing your emotional intelligence - that meaning your understanding of yourself and what drives you.

Would love to hear peoples findings!

The value sorter tool is on the top right hand corner of the page.

The results for me have been amazing.

Sounds like I'm a bit self-centered. I can't help it if I want enough money not to have to work and follow my passion for road trips and reading/learning about whatever interests me for as long as it interests me and generally doing what strikes me from moment to moment.

1.Health
2.Independence
3.Family

The findings are often surprising. I got this result when I was single. At the time family came third. If I were to to the test now that I am considering getting married family would more than likely come first. This shows that values change but knowing what they are helps with focusing on what is important at that given moment.

I compared the report from the above mentioned site to the values in action survey at the authentic happiness site to get a fuller picture. This is informing my decisions and actions and has helped align me with purpose and passion / being authentic & congruent.

UHF mentioned that you think you might be selfish.
bemyself mentioned sounding a bit self-centered.

I felt selfish when I first did the test but now I dont at all - I was doing what was right at the time. By improving my health and independance I was improving my ability to enjoy relationships which is leading me to starting a family.

Knowing how the three of us responded in the short-term is very interesting and maybe over time I will get to hear about what has changed.

Thanks Rob

Back in time, when there was no internet I've been doing a similar exercise with a small pieces of paper. I would write my values on them and rearrange them on the floor - the table was too small for that. It gives a lot more power to your findings when you move the values with your own hands and suddenly realize that one just can not be above the other. It just feels wrong.
But this online tool can be a good start for such shuffling.
The tool has shown
Independence
Wisdom
Health
as my top ones. The alternative methods have always put independence at the top, I've never thought wisdom is one of my values and Health has always been somewhere at the top for me. Interesting.

Am I the only person with integrity on this thread?

But really, I think this is an interesting test, and it seems to be moderately valid. Or at least flattering.

I don't see the point of this. You shouldn't find out your values so that you can change your goals to fit them. It should be the other way around.
