Default Power Of Attitude

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. Before I give you todays quote, I just wanted to again encourage you to share your interpretations of these quotes. Not for my benefit but rather for your own. As I collect quotes I write a brief description for each one. When I first started it took me about three hours to write just two paragraphs. At first it seems incredibly hard to put your thoughts into words, but just try. What you wil notice is as you start to write ideas will start coming into your mind. New thoughts will come, old thoughts will resurface. Writing is a form a creation. And that's our goal. We want to create our own destinys.

In todays society we are constantly told what to do, what to like, how to act. The media is constantly bombarding us with things that keep us from thinking for ouselves. We are told what to eat, what music to listen to, how we should look. Because of this people are no longer their own person but rather the person society says they should be. We are writing less. Original music is on the decline. Just look at how many re-mixes are out there. We are just regurgitating the past to form the future. But there is no future when you're living in the past. I say don't let anybody tell you what you're supposed to be but rather take it upon yourself to become that you want to be. Now for the quote of the day.

The Power Of Attitude.

"Our lives are not determined by what happens to us, but how we react to what happens; Not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thought, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst...A spark that creates extraordinary results."

I not sure who wrote this, but I got it form a co-worker of mine and she got it from the Sky Mall magazine aboard an airplane. I'm sure we've all seen the inspirational pictures and quotes they have. It's amazing where inspiration comes from. One day things weren't going to well. My focus was not where it was suppossed to be. Shortly before I got to work I changed my focus and started to dwell on the positive. I got to work and she gave me this quote which instantly let me know that all would be okay. By shifting my attitude I was able to "attract" the comfort I was looking for.

It's amazing how much we let others determine our lives. For example I was talking with a friend of mine at the end of the day. He had a horrible day. He told me that on his way to work he got cut off and got into an argument with the other motorist. This started his day in a downward spiral. He got a flat a little later on the way to work. Now he was late. He missed the first part of an important meeting. Now his boss is upset with him. At lunch someone spilled coffee on his shirt. He said he really let that person have it. Later he stubbed his toe so hard on his desk he had to limp around for the rest of the day. He told me he just ready for the day to be over.

My friend fell into the trap that we all do from time to time. He let what happened to him early effect the outcome of the rest of his day. We all have within us the ability to form our days and that is done by the attitude that we bring to every situation. If we stay in a positive mindset life seems to flow a little easier. At the beginning of each day we have to set the tone. My suggestion and what I try to do now is when you get up, say to yourself three things that you're thankful for. Take it a step further and begin to write them down. What you'll find is that as you're being thankful, remembering the good things you have, you'll forget about the negative aspects in your life. Your attitude becomes positive. You begin to think more clearly. Other peolple notice and they will either join in your positive bliss or stay out of your way because "misery loves company," so they'll find someone else to complain with.

When you're positive you think about new things. New ideas are born. When your upset all you can think about is what your angry about. You can't be a creator in that mindset. Your life becomes a re-run with the same negative events and the same negative people having recurring roles in your life. You have the ability to create the amazing. A life that you are truly deserving of.

In closing I would like to emphasize the importanace of being thankful and giving. About a month ago I noticed that my co-worker( the one who gave me the quote) was having a bad day. She is usually very bubbly and alive, but on this particular day she was down. I wrote the quote out on a piece of paper and left it so she would find it. When I came back she just gave me a hug and said thank you. I asked her if she remembered that quote. She did not. I reminded her that she was the one that gave it to me. So you see. She gave me something a month earlier, and I was able to give her the same gift she had shared with me.

Thanks for reading. Now tell me In Your Own Words.

I love quotes.... "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." --Mark Twain/Samuel Clemmens

I have been in reaction, the fight or flee mode for so long, that I forgot that there was something else I could be doing... I think I know now what I should be doing, and perhaps things in my life will change.... It is interesting that this very morning I woke up with a question in my mind.... "Is it our positive expecations that is needed the most, or is it how we feel about those expectations?"... this answers the question... coming to this page right off the get go was a major syncronisity for me... Its not something that I didn't know already, but it is nice to be reminded when we forget. I am glad I had found this forum because there are a lot of knowledgable people. And it seems like everytime I search for an answer I get it or one closely related more readily on this site whether it be through the forums or in the articles than I ever have in any other site. Of course I get answers outside of the web as well... I tend to think very deeply, and it helps that there are those who think even deeper than me... what a wonderful experience this site has been... Let me share with you a story I read when I was studying Buddhism...

A student came to his teacher and said "How can we know enlightenment?" The master looked to the sky and then to the ground, and then he simply answered... "Questions...." said the master. "Questions? What do you mean? What are these questions you speak about?" said the student. The master calmy replied "If you do not have the right questions, you cannot have the right answers." The student thought for a moment, and then said "Ah, but what are the right questions?" The master paused and smiled and said "Precisely."

I feel the same way. I 'm always reminded of key points when I visist. And they always have to do with the issues I'm dealing with. There are truly no coincidences.

Here is an article on Positive Attitude

Developing a positive attitude

"A bird in the hand is worth... well... a bird in the hand."--my uncle.

But here is what I am struggling with... everything I've ever read only mentions that one should have a positive outlook or positive expectation, some things mention positive intentions, and other things mention realistic optimism... But I don't think I ever read anything that states on HOW exactly to change your attitude. I look up HOW to change your attitude... and I get the same old recycled stuff... "Think Positive" "Just Be Happy" "Smile..." "Physiology" "Transformational vocubarly" But, I really don't believe that it is that simple... I believe the HOW to go from negative to positive feelings is not a quick approach... I tend to think we need to identify with our true feelings, and use those to propel us foreward.... Have a positive outlook BY using your "negative" emotions in a more successful way. What is your opinion on this quoteguy?

Having a positive attitude all the time is very hard to do but not impossible to achieve. There are many negative aspects of life that we see every day. They can be very distracting. Distraction from your goals is the main problem of why people don't attain their dreams.

The thing I like to do is to start being thankful for the things I have. If I try to focus on what I already have, I feel that I am in a better place. When you think of the things that you are greatful you will remember the good feelings associated with these things and the events that led to such happiness.

Having an "attitude of gratitude" is a certain way speed up the process of attraction and fulfillment of all your dreams. When you are thankful you remember the good times and naturally you will want to experience these good times again. You will start to do the things routinely that put you in a positive mindset. It will become second nature.

When I get up in the morning, I do an exercise that gets me ready for the day. I write down three things in my life that I am thankful for. When I start my day like this, what I am trying to do is get into a positive state before I step into the world. You have to arm yourself against the negativity that you may face during the day.

Another thing to do is to put yourself in positive situations. Don't set yourself up for failure. If you know that something bothers you, don't engage in that activity. For example, some people complain about the nightly news and how they feel depressed when they watch it. Well, STOP WATCHING IT. Why would you do something that you know is going to put you in a bad mood? It doesn't make sense.

So try and find the things that will keep you in a positive mood. Gravitate towards positive people and positive activities such as forums like these. Ultimately, your happiness is determined solely by you, but it doesn't hurt to get some friendly positive encouragement.

One thing that can help is to share knowledge that you've gained from others. Just like I'm doing right now, you can do for others. We don't always remember, but we already know the answers to our questions, we just need to be reminded from time to time. Take time to share with others when they ask for help. You put yourself in a good mood because it always feels good to help, and you help another person grow as an individual.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I like the quotes. Keep sharing.

"The only thing you can't afford to postpone is joy." --Alan Cohen

I guess one of my major downfalls in this is vulnerabilty... People tell me that I can or can't or should or shouldn't do something, and I just shut down... I just become inactive as though I were a robot trying to compare two contradicting programming commands, and being neutralized by default.

You don't ever just want to stop or shut down. You will get a lot of conflicting views. Some people will be just trying to sell you something and some will genuinely be trying to help you.

Gather all the information and start to weed out what doesn't feel good to you. A "robot" needs someone else to fix them so they rely on external sources for repair. You are not a "robot." Use the information that works for you and make your own internal repairs. Become excited that you have the ability to do this and then share your story with someone else.

I'm finding more and more that the Universe likes consistancy. I achieve the most when I am actively engaged in improving my life. If you do nothing you will surly get nothing.

Interesting here...

I just read about mnetaphors today after work in Awaken the Giant Within... He also talks about feeling like the environment controls you instead of you controlling the environment...

I never realized how my metaphor of being a robot was really in my subconcious alot... until I just made that comparison...

We all have metaphors... "I feel like a cool summer's breeze" "I feel like ****..." "Life is like a box of chocalotes..." Sometimes we are unaware of our metaphors until we have to bring it out somehow...

We all have imaginary worlds in our minds that compare life to something... we have metaphors for everything... "I felt like a King for a while, but then I became a peasant."

The other day I figured out that one of my metaphors was that "I felt like I was trapped in a Jail cell without any key." One of my friends who knows about Transformational Vocubarly and said "The key is under your pillow on your bunk... Its been there the whole time..."

This helped me to realize my self pity and helped me alleviate my depression.

The most famous metaphorical quote appears to be William Shakespear's...
"All the world is a stage..."

Hello Friends,

Hope all is well. I came across this story while browsing the web today. The author is unknown, but I found it at: http://www.joyfulministry.com/bestrate.htm. This is a powerful story about the importance of having a positive attitude. Enjoy.

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone asked him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!" He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. 'You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.' I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life." I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, 'He's a dead man. " I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply..I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

wow, great story, its so true, yet many of us forget...we go back instead of moving forward, I hope people can learn from this a great deal.

obstacles: they're challenges in disguise, and you grow each time you accomplish something, even if it means cleaning up your desk, or tyding the kitchen, or deciding you want to become a better person, or /and accomplish great things is VERY commendable instead of lying down and wondering "why, god, why? I mean we all need those moments, but it's important to let go and think of "every second is another way to change your future for the better". THATS RIGHT..EVERY SINGLE SECOND.

(I forgot who said that quote)

I think having a "positive attitude" is extremely overrated, as opposed to having good character. Having a positive attitude about something will make you enjoy it more, but I don't care if you have a negative attitude, as long as you do it.

That's interesting, ticktockclok. Are you saying that having integrity is a more important value to you than having a positive attitude? Doing what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it? Being able to count on your own word?

I wouldn't have thought to pit those two values against each other, but now that you mention it, I think I agree with you.

I like what you had to write in your blog. Awesome. My hope is that we can all teach each other in our own words, because we have so much to learn from different perpectives. The great thing is when we get down to it, we are all saying the same thing.

The way I say may be different from the way you say it, but the ideas are the same. Someone may be able to relate to you betther than they can relate to me. As long as we're spreading a message with a "positive" foundation, I can't find anything wrong with that. I'll be sure to visit your blog again. Thanks for the inspiration.
