Making money with a blog website
 

I just added a blog to my website. I was looking at a few books on blogs and see that they are promoted differently than websites. I got the idea for a blog from this site. With websites it helps to exchange links. So I guess a blog has something similar. So I would like to do that with my blog with people trying to make money with their own blog site who are on this forum. If it is similar to websites, then the people on this forum working together as a network can help each other to get more traffic to their site.

I have Google Adsense on my website. As far as success with it, my site is 1.5 years old and if you do a Google search for "losing weight," Google has millions of sites on this and my site comes up #2 or 2nd right now. It has been in the #1 spot a couple of times this month including last night. The blogs add a lot of original content to a site.

I chose not to use any software to build my blog. This means that people cannot leave a comment but I read how Steve got rid of his comments. I will be busy enough adding blogs without having to moniter comments. My site has a Google page rank of 2. I saw where Steve listed all these things to learn about to promote blogs. He said to search for them if you do not know what they are. I am unfamiliar with most. Instead of all that searching, is there a site out there where (like maybe one of you) has put info on what all of them all.

Also I cannot afford those books on blogs that I was looking at. Is there a webpage that has most of that information on it. Steve said that his blog does not get much traffic from search engines whereas mine gets a lot from the Google search engine. So that must be one difference between websites and blogs. So if you want to do the blog equivalent of exchanging links and your site is recognized by Google (meaning that you are not too new or have not done something to get them to ban you) then let me know. I know a lot about promoting websites but practically nothing about promoting a blog. I like the title of Steve's blog. My site is more about health and mental well being than making money.

I don't have a blog, I prefer to annoy people here rather than drone on reasonably unoticed, but I have got a website where you can suggest to people take a look at your blog, self promotion but not in a advertsing sort of way.

I'm no expert about blogs, but your format doesn't seem to be very user friendly, seems more like a one page ad?? I think most people sort of expect a certain format for blogs and when they don't see that, they think it's something else.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong, maybe some blog experts will lend their thoughts here

Max Power is right. Your site might have some good content in it, but the format almost makes me go blind.....and I have 20/20 vision. It's because of the lack of white space on your site. Take a look at Max Power's site. There is plenty of white space and a clean format. It is difficult to know what your site is about or whether it is a blog or not just by looking at it. If you are not going to use wordpress or typepad, no biggie.....but you do have to emulate the look and feel of a blog to make it appear like it is one. A couple of changes can make this happen.

Your website design looks akward. You are free to choose that, but you have better a damn good reason to do it. Being against the system may work, but your site doesn't even give that impression.

If you don't have a good reason you should use Wordpress (or something similar).

Comments help small blogs, but they aren't essential.

RSS feeds are essential. Lets say someone visites your blog and finds it interesting, if you would have a feed he would subscribe to your blog, but since you have no feed he won't come back again.
Trackbacks are also very valuable, when you want to get people to link to your articles.


You probably mean that you are busy adding blog articles. Steve has one blog but multiple articles, he doesn't add any additional blogs.

Another benefit of a 'real' blog like Wordpress is that it builds out pages for each post. As long as you make them search engine friendly this means more pages that will be indexed by Google and better chance for rankings.

Plus they're easy to use and require little to no technical ability to create new posts/pages!

To second (or third) the comments above, there are few good reasons not to use free, quality blogging software like wordpress. Unless you really really enjoy editing HTML, they can make small changes an order of magnitude easier and that's always important. There's also components ready-made for a lot of things you might want to do with your blog, so you can do it in 20 minutes instead of several days.
