Default How to Change a Habit - Feedback

Hi Everyone,

I just released an e-book, How to Change a Habit. I'm looking for suggestions or feedback for the main page of the site. I'm not a copywriting expert, so I wanted to gauge your response to it. Too pushy? Vague? Missing something? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Here's the main page:

How to Change a Habit

As for the book itself, it's a little under 90 pages detailing how to change a habit. With full color illustrations, I expand on great basic techniques like Steve's Thirty Day Trial, into more advanced methods for changing habits I've gathered from personal experimentation and research.

I'm interested in your thoughts and criticisms.

Scott, first let me say that I greatly enjoy your blog, as do many others. You've probably noticed me hanging around there lately. So for starters, thanks for the great content.

Secondly, let me just say that I am also *not* an expert on sales. I have a complex background that involves radio, voice-over work, computer programming, data architecture, and public speaking -- but alas, no sales. So, in other words, take my opinion here for what it's worth.

Looking at your page, here are my thoughts:

1) I love the way you've done the "sample" booklet: the "Grayed out" table of contents shows readers of your sample book what they can expect if they buy the full version -- that's clever marketing.

2) I also like the way that you have the "Buy it now" buttons spaced at several places on the page -- a technique I've read about on CopyBlogger and other sites of its nature.

3) Scott, I'm sure you'll sell plenty of copies of this eBook because you have people who trust and respect you -- so you're name is golden.

Okay, so now I'll try to actually give you something helpful:

1) Although I loved the cover of the eBook when I viewed the sample version in IE, the 3D picture of the book on your landing page could maybe use a little more pop. Maybe because it's all white on a white background? Maybe it would look more enticing if it stood out more? (As I said, I'm no expert, so take that for what it's worth).

2) I just finished reading some cool tips on landing pages over at CopyBlogger, and they suggest that you should minimize exit points from your page to only those that are absolutely essential to make the sale. A user might click on one of the links that leads back to your blog, at which point you might have lost them. (the flip side is that your blog is a direct link to your credibility -- if you do an experiment with and without extraneous links, I'd be interested in reading the results.)

The e-book comes with a 120 Day money-back guarantee. Long enough so that if you test out the ideas and you don't find they work for you, you can get a full refund.
You should have a specific promise that you sell your readers.
Readers don't want to buy "ideas", they want to buy a solution. When writing your money-back guarantee you should describe the solution readers.
Maybe something like: "If after 120 days you don't improve your ability to change your longlasting habits that gave you problems I will give you your money back". Something like that.

I would also point out that, after your FAQ page, Lula Morales Realty, Inc. is responsible for paying the refound which means they don't have to trust you for the refund.

I would think about video or audio testimonals if you can get them.

I would use another cover for your ebook. Yours doesn't draw enough attention.

Brutha,

Thanks for the tips. I chatted with a Lulu staff member about the refund option. He said that they can handle any refunds if they come that way. Of course, if Lulu didn't honor this agreement, I would handle refunds myself.

Scott,

Let me just take this opportunity to let you know you have one more admirer. I have read your blog before and I am so impressed with your wisdom...at SUCH a young age! Truly remarkable. I have to wonder what you will achieve by my age (mid-thirties)!

Really, your options are limitless...but I think you already know that!

Jan

I would put "Start a new exercising program or diet" and "Wake up earlier" at the very top and remove "Quit smoking", simply because I think people are much most interested in those two habits to change. On "Quit smoking", of course, you shouldn't remove anything you have about quitting smoking if you have it in your ebook. I think you would get more smokers to take a gander at the preview doing so and help more people/get more buyers this way.
