Default Feeling.... depressed and lazy... need advice on business/job

I've been trying to start a small business (an online store) for about 1 1/2 years now.

I've made a lot of progress but it seems like new things keep coming up. For example, I didn't know I was supposed to file sales tax every month, even if I didn't sell anything... So I was late with my state (alabama) sales tax return... two months... each month had a $50 late fee. So now I have to pay $100 for that.

I'm still trying to find out if I owe anything for my local sales tax being late. I may owe another $100.. don't know yet.

All of this at a time when I needed about $50 more bucks to get started. Another thing is that i'm not really sure anymore that the products I was planning on selling will actually sell. I think that my competitors may be able to get the products for a lot cheaper.

Now, something that could possibly solve all of this:

I could get a job and...
Take the money from that job and pay any late fees.. get the business (an LLC) in good stand, also I could even get a trademark for the business name...I could even use the money to pay for a logo... coming back at my competitors with good branding (something they suck at)

But, not only would it help when it comes to the business... I would also have health insurance!! BCBS!! This is good because I need to have jaw surgery sometime within a year.. Ofcourse I wouldn't want to keep the job that long, but if I could keep it, it would solve that problem.

Now, the only problem is that I don't want to get a job. I am lazy. Also, i'm not good at dealing with people. I have somewhat of a social phobia/agoraphobia...

The idea that it may be possible to start the business without getting a job also keeps me from getting a job......

Anyway.... anyone got any advice for me? I hate to complain like a little ♥♥♥♥♥, but I just need external advice.

Not sure as to how helpful my advice will be, as I’m not exactly sure how all the tax laws in Alabama work, but perhaps you could “not sell” your products for the time being. Not sure what you’re selling, but perhaps you could take some time away from the business, that way you wouldn’t have to pay the monthly sales tax return late fees.

Also, you could do something cheaper, such as something similar to what I’m currently doing, is running a content-based website. Maybe you like to write, or share stories or something? Plus running an informational website is much cheaper:
You don’t have to worry about as many taxes, building your product, purchasing supplies, shipping, labor fees, etc.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do

Hello Lovinglife…

Seems like we have a major problem here… the least of which is a job problem… looks like you need a major attitude overhaul…

The minute that you see yourself as “lazy” you don’t have much going for you except wishful thinking…

Nobody is lazy unless they are sick… however, what is seen as laziness is usually due a lack of motivation…

So, what you really need is not advice on business or jobs… but on motivation… and a lack of motivation is usually due to the belief that, no matter what, the person will not succeed in turning his/her life around…

What you need to do is to get some inspirational book or whatever to inspire you to believe that if you really want too… you to can be a success… or at least, have a good life…

Now, this post may sound cruel and cold to you… but that was not my intention in posting it… and, if I have offended you… I am deeply sorry…

Keep on posting… keep on searching… and you will find the answers that you are looking for…

The very best of luck to you…

.

It is not important what WE think it is important what YOU think!

If you try to extrapolate the reasoning to others you will never achieve anything.. YOU must decide what to do.. YOU must sell the goods... YOU must make the good marketing... YOU .. YOU... YOU...

After all YOU are no longer little baby so grow up!

How much return on investment can you get?

How fast can you sell goods?

By my parents.

I don't want to say what I am selling.

I have no idea how much return or how fast I can sell.

thanks for posting this.

im in the exact same situation as the OP. and have been extremely frustrated lately over making the decision of whether i want an online retail store. or an info site.

i think online retailing is way to expensive and too much like owning a job... although u can have everything automated it is still to costly. in myopinion

Retailing gives you a job...

Content providing gives you a life... (even if you blog as a business you need some financial investing into it if you really want to operate it as a business... attending interesting conventions, buying books, ... acquiring new experiences...)

I think with retailing, after you factor in expenses and taxes... especially if you are ordering in wholesale amounts - what your left with as net profit per item is wat youd get in an affiiate commission

i find it very difficult to make a substantial amount of money online (20k +), like the OP im not sure which avenue is the best route to visit...whether it be affiliating, adsense or subscription membership areas within the site you need to pay for (not porn)

IMHO adsense et.al. give you a fast break in.. that of course means you have to got great basic service, if the business is bullseye then you can be very well off...

of course the main point is to hit the bullseye topic/product/service... and do it right...

Hi Lovinglife,

If you want to make any business a success you have to first do the research to see if:
a) It's feasible
b) It's something you want or are motivated to do.

You obviously didn't do the research for sales tax or you would've known it needed to be filed even with no sales. Before you start any venture "be prepared".

I have articles on motivatation and visualization that might help you get going.

p.s. If you're doing this to avoid going out into the "real world", you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
