Despite being a student, there are still ways for you to generate good income. with a limited capital. Think about what you enjoy doing. Then think about the ways how people can benefit from what you like to do. Think, think, and keep thinking. Businessmen are constantly thinking about what their next step is, and how they can capitalise on that idea. Be aware of what's going on around you.

I'm sure you have knowledge that people want and are good at certain things. If you're good at cooking, write a recipe book or start a website offering people content on cooking with minimal effort. I'm just giving you a rough idea, but you know best what you are good at.

And last but not least, implement it. A good idea without action is like a light bulb without electricity.

During my college years I never had to hold down a part-time job. I carried over my mobile disc jockey business that I developed in my home town with a friend when we were teenagers and then we could add other parties/ weddings/dances to our list in the area where I went to school as well. Word of mouth worked wonders, business cards, repeat business, references. I was able to make a good $400-$500 a week as a result of 2-3 gigs on the weekends.

Find what you love to do, get creative about how you can market yourself to the consumer that fufills your passion and the rest will follow.

Matt

play poker

heaps of college students do that to generate income, it doesn't take too long to become a winning player... it's kinda bad though because your not contributing anything to society, your just involved in an elaborate system to slowly take money off other people

Hi Yasi,

You may want to check out Wealthy Affiliate. It's run by two young guys who were in exactly your same position in college a little over 3 years ago. They started doing affiliate marketing since they were very limited on time and only had a small budget to start anything. They have since been able to parlay that into huge amounts of money.

I joined that site a few months ago and can honestly say I would probably not be making money at it without their help. Also they do an outstanding job of helping people 1 on 1 if you ask them.

It looks interesting, but the format is just like any other infomercial site. Kind of fishy, if you ask me. Plus it has pop-ups.

Care to provide us with some screenshots?

Since you're currently a college student, you're tapped into a potentially huge niche market. Find a way to provide value to college students. The easiest way to do this is to find problems. Pay attention to your everyday life. Listen to your friends. Eavesdrop on people in the coffeeshop line. Make a list of all of the problems you hear in one week.

Then see if you can solve any of them. If there's a lack of good DJs, set up a service like Matt did. If the snacks in the coffeeshop suck, see about selling baked goods on the student center lawn. If you solve a problem, people will pay you for it.

Hi TechnoguyRob,

I agree the page can be a little salesy....but I can honestly say firsthand they are straight up and the real deal and have helped me a TON. I could put up a screenshot later...I'm not at a computer where I can do that right at the moment. For now, I did pull a comment off the forums that was posted a few days ago by someone who joined last year and just recently rejoined.

Hello everyone -

WOW this place has grown! I was a member here last year - I started in Sep 2005 when there were only a handful of members! I am not really all that surprised - Kyle and Carson are fantastic mentors who genuinely care about the members and want everyone to succeed. That is often a cliche you hear but I can tell you first hand it is the truth when it comes to the two of them!

I took a break from my PPC campaigns and now I have restarted them along with a couple of new network programs that I found to be rather promising! I'll let you know how they go along with my Affiliate programs!

Meanwhile it is good to be back here and I look forward to getting to know many of you and learning from all of you!! Take care, Larry

Just so you know, I ain't here just hawking them to make money...I make peanuts if someone joins so I don't really care. I recommend them because they have helped so much and provide incredible value. I've been making most of my money from other industries. Speaking of which, they have a huge section where they have pre-researched all kinds of industries you can market.

Thanks so much thadroe!

I think I will try it out sometime (once I get out of school in two weeks, so I have some time). Do you have a username or anything like that, so I can report you as the person who referred me? I don't know if they even have something like that, but if they do, I want to make sure you get credit where credit is due.

Glad to help, man. Actually, your browser cookies should track it for like 90 days so no worries about that. But yeah I do have a username on their forums and would be glad to help in any way myelf. It's the same username as here...thadroe. I'm very active on their forums so make sure you say hi to me on there if you try it out. Also, if you get on there....pay special attention to posts on there by a guy named Travis....the dude is a freakin genius! I talk to him a lot and know he makes some serious bank.

yasi_joy,

There are definitely possibilities for income out there. I finished up my bachelors degree a year ago and sure wish I knew then what I know now. The first thing I would recommend is to be open to all opportunities and actively seek out opportunities.

While in college I didn't really need a job, but the summer before my last semester of school I started looking around. I applied for jobs not necessarily looking for employment, but more to just see what was out there and to get some experience with interviewing. I ended up doing about a dozen interviews and landing my current job. During the time I finished school I was allowed to telecommute six days a week, making only one trip to the office a week. Since then I have started doing even more telecommuting along in addition to my regular 9-5 job. If you look long enough you can find employers that need what you have to offer. If you don't have a lot to offer, work on it some. You can learn to type easily and there are plenty of data entry jobs out there that you can do from your dorm room or computer lab.

If you look around, I'm sure you can something that will fit your schedule and lifestyle. It may not be a dream job... but you can make money doing just about anything.

Good luck!

Default This is what I have learned:

People are always very willing to help out students in any way they can. For example, if you start a business you may find it very easy to get clients in whatever field you are in because people look at college students and admire what they are doing; especially if you are starting a business. This doesn't mean that you have to create a huge business that requires large funding. A small service business is great to get you through college.

I have found that word of mouth works very well for college students who are self employed. And believe me... This is what I currently do now to get me through college. I am self employed. I do home improvement work for people all throughout my city and every one of my customers is by word of mouth. I don't plan to build this into a big company. I have the freedom to study and work anytime I want without any limitations and the pay is great (because I set it ). You will have to find something that you are relatively skilled in. I learned some of my skills while growing up and working on projects with my dad and others from just trying it out and getting it right the first time. Believe it or not, many of my clients will let me do something that I don't even know how to do but they have seen that I can follow directions out of a book quite well. And I do tell them that I have never done that before.

I really think they trully enjoy helping out college students. I hope this helps and send me a message if you want me to go any further into this.

I would like to join this search for additional income while in college. I have to warn you first that i am a very different case. I dont actually need to make any additional money right now, becuase i work full time- okay, im in the military. The military pays for my college (mostly- i get $4500 per year in tuition, i still pay for books, but no complaint here). I make plenty of money to afford anything i want, i even save and invest lots of this money.

I know what your thinking: "this guys got plenty of money, so why does he need more?". Well, heres the thing, im in a very serious relationship right now. We are contemplating getting married and having her move out here to live with me (im stationed in Okinawa Japan). If she does this, I want to support her through college as well (she will work when she can, but im not sure what jobs are available for her on this tiny Japanese island). I would like to be able to support her without having to take out student loans putting us in debt.

I currently work about 8-10 hours/day on the weekdays, the possibility for me to get stuck with a 24 hour duty is always present, and i am taking 2 college courses that require a substantial reading load (substantial for me because i cannot yet read very fast- my PhotoReading package seems to be lost in the mail ). Other than that, the rest of my freetime can go toward whatever i choose. For instance, many of you may know that Im experimenting with the stock market, and this is taking up some of my freetime.

So thats my situation, and any help i can get is greatly appreciated.

I would like to take this moment to add that this site is excellent. Not because of the site itself (not that anything is wrong with it) but because of the great people who patronize it. Everyone here is very helpful, and we all share personal development as common ground. I dont know how to express my gratitude for this site, except to contribute to it what I can in the form of posting. If anyone ever thinks i may possess some knowledge that may be helpful to them, please let me know. I may have a busy schedule at times, but i am more than willing to help- Its the least i can do after all the help i get from this site!

Lightbulb ill try it

wow... I just went to that **************** website. I have mixed emotions about it. I first started reading and was very motivated, then of course i got to the line that says "and it only costs $29.99/month". Damn. That always turns me away from these online campaigns. I thought about it, and I've decided to try it. If for no other reason, I will try it as an experiment, and i will keep all of you up to date on my success, or lack there of.

I want to let you know about this new venture now for a very important reason. When i read testimonials on websites from "people" who claim to have made lots of money using a certain product or service, i am immediately turned off from the whole concept. Every website that offers a product or service has testimonials from people who have made millions, etc, so why should i believe this site? Its a difficult problem that i have developed. I dont want to be too gullible, and fall for a scam, but at the same time, i dont want to be too skeptical and miss a great opportunity. So how do i discern scam from true opportunity? I dont know. I havent found a way yet, except to try it myself. So thats what im going to do. Im going to try this out, and tell all of you of my results.

Because you know right now that i have not even started, and cannot possibly benefit from telling you yay, or nay, that should help you to trust me a little more. You also have all of my activity on this site as a tribute to my integrity. Either way, im willing to pay $30/month just to help all of you who may be interested in this. If its a scam, i will have lost a little money that i can afford to lose, but none of you will have to. On the other hand, if it works, you will have a trustworthy testimonial.

I should start another Thread for this experiment. I think i will.

Actually, college might be the best time to invest in yourself so to speak and reap the reawrds later.

I would seriously advise evry college student to open their eyes and at least consider that the auto-route of college-graduation-lokk for a 'job' is completely at odds with making wealth.

Consider your college time as a way to grow your business ideas and even start them out.

Look at Richard Branson. He had a no lose attitude and his age nor experience didnt bother him.

I am still a student but I work full time since I finished highschool. I know that this is not the best way to generate income (I'll start a business soon), but still I learned a lot of things while working - things that you don't learn in school. Also I believe that school is worthless (at least here in Romania).

School is never worthless anywhere that you go. Educating yourself is your own personal responsibility and any room with faculties to help you do so is GOOD.

Educate yourself but becoming educated in a class is easier (for me).

I attend a very small private college and, naturally, I think everyone should (1200 students). My big classes are less than 20 people.

I'm currently in a philosophy seminar on Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason with 8 professors and 3 students. I've learned the most there.

A lot of successful businessmen started their work DURING college and ended up dropping out (bill gates, steve jobs, etc...).

I'm currently trying to make money doing computer troubleshooting/tutoring. It's a bit slow right now but it is a good thing to get into especially at a university where most students have computers these days.

Try posting an ad on craigslist to start off, in whatever trade you know well.

I agree and would love to hear what toasterwater thinks. I can't blame anyone for being skeptical about stuff like this. I always am and have bought into a lot of crap before. It's funny, the thing that actually sold me on it initially is that they were the only ones out there actually saying on their main page that you can't get rich over night, it's not easy, and it takes hard work.

...and that's a very true statement. I've had to work my ass off with affiliate marketing...but the support there is what helped me stick with it until the profits started coming in.

I was watching this Russian movie that's not dubbed into English and it was the most hilarious piece of artwork I have ever witnessed on the account of Robinson Cruisoe. So, check this out. They had ideas about America in it, and also they mentioned creating a watch with a radio inside it. Think about how lucrative a CD player (mini) or radio (within the watches limits) is. I don't think it's ever been invented, and yet it was in the movie.

I was also thinking..hmm, maybe some funny folk can go ahead and act out the dub for the American subtitle / maybe even a DUB for the movie if we get permission from the MPAA. Let me know dawgs, cus diz a song bout dem fat bitches yo.. more cushion for the pushinn. (ok so i made a rap in 7th grade, it was embarassing; go figure)

I help put myself in college as a freelance programmer for small businesses and for my schoolmates. I acquired the skills through investment of time in the library and my computer during my first year since it was the only thing I could afford. The next three years was all about making money.

Some of my colleagues earned through buying and selling items. One of my schoolmates offered to supply tissue in all the restrooms in our campus. When he got the deal, every afternoon he had a sack of 1.00 coins to drag home.

Those are real life experiences for you.

A friend of mine makes organic banana bread and sells it to a local vegan store... He doesn't make a killing but it is consistent money.

I am not a member of wealthy affiliate, but I know many people who are there. Wealthy affiliate is a good membership site, and they can really help a beginner in affiliate marketing to make some money.

There is some work involved though. Affiliate marketing is a real business, and like evey business, you must make it work.

As said above, they will even help you 1 to 1.

Brainstorm! The Million Dollar Homepage was created by a kid wanting to figure out a fast way to make money to cover him for college -- and he ended up having to put his first semester off because his Web site made him so much money in such a short amount of time.

Obviously, it's not a repeatable formula (it's a one-shot-wonder type of thing), but it gave me a huge amount of faith in human ingenuity. Between brainstorming here and obsessing about it in your daily life, you could end up with a million ways to make more money in college.

Good luck!
