16 going to start my own bank account

Yeah I think I'm going to take the first step to making money. I'm going to open up my own bank account. I'm pretty sure I need a guardian. But every time I ask my mom to do anything that will allow me to be a little dependent of her she has to argue and if I have to convince her, which takes forever to do. For example, it took me like days to convince her to let me do virtual school in the 9th grade, and also a very long time to convince her to let me drop out this year when I realized school wasn't working out for me. (im getting my GED so shutup lol) I feel that she'll even not wanna let me start a bank account. How would I convince her to let me do this?

Wow, it sounds great that you're so independent already!

Just be careful -- the banks are tricky SOBs:

Mother encourages son to set up bank account that incurs $229 in fees within two weeks despite not touching it

If you can find one near you, look into a credit union. You'll get all the services of a traditional bank, but they aren't out to bleed you dry; you'll likely save money in fees.

I opened my first bank account when I was 17 - well actually I won a competition run by the bank for school kids and the prizes were your own bank account with .... £3 in it.... !!!! (In those days, 8 hours working in a shop on your feet all day earned you £3.59 so that was a lot :) )

I still have that as my main checking account nearly 35 years later (though I have a few others too to be on the safe side - not that I don't trust bankers but... )

It also depends on which country you are from. Different countries have different laws for these things.

I live in Florida, United States.

Okay. I have no idea about US laws but other posters who do will be guide you better.

Present her with the benefits of your becoming responsible with money.

I strongly recommend reading this book before you get started, and especially before you get a credit card.

Good luck!
