Default using twitter as a replacement for a website

hello all ,

just a quick question

we all the basic make money from a website deal

content
marketing
monetize

rinse repeat

however thats not including the maintenance, cost of the website, spam keeping up with emails, finding things to talk about etc

twitter on the other hand has a no spam problems ( that I know of ) content is ready available because you have a network of info to 'retweet' no emails because everyone in your network is tweeting with you no maintenance because twitter does it for you, and you can still can write your long articles and post them on forums like this or scribd and link to it on your twitter

I think you guys get the picture I think its a great idea for young and inexperienced bloggers to get their feet wet. and best of all its free

you dont get adsense or stuff like that but with a big twitter following you can launch a actual website sell some product or service to your followers. there has been cases of people getting jobs just of their conversations from twitter and other social networks.

do you guys know of anyone who has used twitter effectively instead of a website/blog to build their web presence ? I am trying this out now in fact I was going to build a blog to host my value investing articles but I dont want to maintain another website its to much for me

Twitter only has a 140 character limit for each individual post you make.

I know, that's the charm of it, long drawn out posts are left for articles published on scribd or other peoples blogs with guess posts

Twitter is rife with spam! And I address this a lot with some of the performers I work with. You want to own your brand. Own your domain, and own the content on your website. When you contribute content to Facebook fan pages, Facebook newsfeed, and Twitter, you give them that content.

You can argue copyright by default, but you put it on their platform, it's theirs now.

Secondly on that, these guys can one day ban you, or otherwise jack up your account, ruining years of creativity, content building, and SEO overnight. The account was free so you can't demand anything. It's why all this moaning about FB's privacy issue is a moot point. You're not paying them, you are not entitled to anything!

Twitter is good, and actually it has been driving 46% of my traffic recently due to paid tweets, but it's not a long term solution. It's not you. It's not yours.

If you really want to go the free route, use Blogger or Wordpress, at least they can be customized with some learning, but I still highly encourage aspiring professionals to pay for a quality service. I recommend Squarespace. Others on this board like SBI and self hosted Wordpress blogs.

Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Take care,
Chad.

No, I'm saying your own website, with your own domain, with your own hosting plan that you are paying for is part of a long term solution.

Blogger is not my first choice, nor Wordpress. However, if you owned the domain name, and Blogger took you down, as long as you were exporting your content regularly, you could be back up and running on another CMS within an hour, same domain name, thus same "you." Most of the link structure would stay intact if you set up the new one correctly.

If Twitter.com/username breaks your account, or bans you, you can never get that URL back.

If you are planning to make a significant amount of money on the internet the 60$/year that you invest into a proper website shouldn't matter.

I don't think that twitter is a very efficent way for providing value that people are willing to pay for.

If thats the case there are many bllogs that arnt are worth money. Value imo can be given in articles on a blog or artcles on scribd linked to on twitter. Ether way if your not marketing you will not sell anything
