So, I am interested in finding a way to make money teaching, but I have been futilely searching for opportunities for the past several months. In the past, I've been a successful freelance tutor. It takes a lot to build that client base. I'm wondering if there are options to explore that I haven't yet tapped into. In terms of working for companies: I've explored test prep companies in my area. I've applied. Few leads. I know this is partly because my specialties aren't exactly the most exclusive, i.e. I can't tutor in AP/higher level honors. I wonder if I should invest the time to train up in anything. In terms of working for myself: I've graduated from an Ivy League and have wondered multiple times if this experience and my insight into learning differences could merit teaming up with colleagues to offer a unique tutoring service. I haven't yet figured out how the tutoring would be more expert, or have a competitive edge, if there's room for it. Are there any ideas on ways I might make money teaching that I haven't yet explored? Where might I look? What might I specialize in? If there's a market for learning differences focused tutoring, how might I explore that possibility? Also, I am open to suggestions to similar kinds of jobs. At this point, I'm hoping that I can find something related to instruction in some capacity. |

Hi. Teaching is not really (unfortunately) one of the most lucrative paths.... From what I know you must get students for private lessons in your area just to get the money rolling. In the meantime you must continue building that client base because there is simply no other way. This is also equivalent to building reputation. I also suggest you contact schools/universities and offer to give free speech on some interesting topic which might get students contacting you for lessons and also if you keep doing a really good job this may land you a paid part time or full time job. Finally see if you can join or setup your own school/academy/university online if there is something you can teach better than others or in a different unique way. best of luck |
