For the past couple of weeks I have noticed that my readers are coming to my page from some awfully odd referring pages. Here is an example for today:

EDIT: Took out names

Why/How in the world is Lasik-Centers referring people? I have had other strange ones. Nearly all are from overseas.

Is this something I need to be worried about?

I think they're fakes in the sense that they represent robot-generated traffic. The folks running the bots figure that by putting their name in your logs 1 of 2 things might happen. 1, you might click it and give them traffic. 2, you might publish your logs or post about it in a forum, thus creating a link to their site.

In your case, 2 worked and they won.

Wow. Thanks a lot for the information. I had no idea. I deleted the website names so technically they did not win.

They didn't win much anyways since the PDFSP forum puts rel=nofollow on all outgoing links. But it does illustrate the principle they're using.

Hey,
That's a known backlinking "spam" (?) method of driving traffic. I was caught off guard with it once by this guy's site: Tip of the day: Creating Youtube backlinks ? Glowleaf

But I actually enjoyed the novelty of it, and have been following him off and on for a while
