Anyone familiar with selling/buying websites? I was contacted by a company Epirical Investments about buying my website. Anyone familiar with them? I don't have the time to work on it very much, but it earns me a few hundred a month. The company offered me double of what I earn in a year. Is that a good price? Thoughts on selling or holding onto it. I appreciate your thoughts and feedback. thanks |

I've bought and sold a few websites before so have some experience here. If your site is 'autopilot' and making 'free' money for nothing via ads or something, then I wouldn't sell - just leave it as it is making money. If the site does require work, or you just want the money now and accept that you'll lose the long term cash cow, then go for the sale. Regarding the actual sale, consider using www.escrow.com to protect yourself. Otherwise, make sure that you are paid before transferring ownership of your domain, or providing any proprietary code or data that you have. Not just paid, but that the money is withdrawn and safe into your bank account. Do not accept payment by credit card or paypal as these payment method can be reversed with absolutely no recourse to you. I have been stung several times in the past accepting a buyer's credit card through paypal for non-physical goods such as this. I have a particular autopilot website on $2k/month - that's $24k yearly, I think I'd be looking for at least $150k which is 6 years worth. I have no reason to sell - it's just 'free' money. Hope this helps! |

I see 10-12x monthly revenue quoted as a good selling price pretty often, so I'd say 24x is a nice price if you want to sell. I would think about whether or not the site's traffic is growing and if it's fully optimized/monetized. Also consider that most "autopilot" sites are potentially only 1 Google algorithm tweak away from being nearly worthless (at least revenue-wise).
