Hey, I am interested to hear from people that run their own monetized websites about their marketing strategies. I've worked hard on one of my sites to get it onto the first page of google, which it has done. I just received an email from someone who is looking to promote their product on my site. This is the first time someone has approached me about this and I'm quite excited about the possibility. My site doesn't have a policy per se when it comes to this kind of thing as it is only monetized using adsense at the moment. I am interested to know how people deal with this so I can offer a package that suits him and myself with neither of us getting ripped off (but especially me not getting ripped off) Things I can offer would include reviews and guest articles, banner advertising and keyword sponsorship. What sort of price should I be putting on these products and is there a way to combine them to create some sort of super package that really helps us all? |

If you think the product would be useful or interesting for your audience (so that you would be comfortable recommending it), you can promote it on an affiliate basis, taking a % of the sales. You should probably do a bit of research on the other opportunities you have to promote products on an affiliate basis so you get an idea of what's out there. You only get a few % commission from Amazon but potentially 50+% for information products. In addition to Amazon, Commission Junction, and Clickbank are good places to start to at least get an idea what's out there.

To me it sounds like a typical affiliate marketing deal. You provide the content, reviews, drum up some unique banners, etc... and then profit via a percentage of the sales. Since they contacted you I would push your commission above 20%. Then every time they sell said product through your link you get 20%+ of the sale. He contacted you, not the other way around--take advantage of that opportunity. Obviously negotiate if you get the feeling they can't do that kind of commission. Remember 15% is better than nothing, but 20%+ is far more exciting. Do all you can to promote the value of your site. Do you have a list? If so impress this upon them. Let them know exactly how many people you can email with this product. |

For future reference, if someone is in a similar situation and searches the topic, I decided to sell a guest post for ~ $75 No commission, not really a passive source of income or anything but a nice addition to my bank account. |
