Default Using pictures of CDs etc to advertise products

Ok, I am just looking at something online that I am interested in.
I know full well that it will all be downloadable as MP3 and PDF. Yet, here it is, another 'fake' product with pictures of a zillion CDs/DVDs, spiral bound work books and so on.
Is anyone in this day and age fooled by this?
Does it really help to sell products?

I actually thought that if there are cds in the picture you get an actual cd..

I'm so naive and innocent

Matthew Cluff is on a distinguished road

The first time I bought a digital MP3, it had a cover and I thought that I'd be getting something in the mail (when I was afterward brought to a download page).

I think it helps sell the product because it gives a "tangible" feel to whatever is being sold. Plus, it helps with "branding" the product.

mainstreetcm will become famous soon enough

With digital products (especially IM niche) spending on the rise I would definitely say it adds to the overall sales page. Do I care for it? Not really, but then again I'm not the target market for said products.
