Default Blog, or Website? for my second business. Opinions?

It is a WP.com site, but the theme is an overused one. I was thinking about taking the plunge and going ahead and going with .org and using online booking and accepting online deposits and payments. I love plugins. You can't use them unless you're self hosted

The Goddess of Hair

My web designer friend can help me switch to .org and I could get a premium theme.

I have a sponsored FB ad campaign starting up 9/1/11 and I also want to plan an awesome entry that will welcome new clients to have up by then.

I forgot my original question. Static site, or blog? Or website *with* a blog as a page?

You can also just Keep your Blog and just add a static home page and set it to welcome your visitors and direct them to where you want them to go.

See steve's home page for this.

Hope this helps

I like your creativity with hair, really

Hey Kaie,

I checked your website and it looks already lovely as it is
I think all you need to do is do a few touch-ups here and there to make it more clean and focused.

Also I think *awaqas1* made a good suggestion there.
You will look more like a *business mode* by having a decent front page that welcomes people right from the moment they entered in.
And you can lead them to your informative blog page then

Thank you guys

I just imported my blog to a self hosted WP site. Do you like the format better? I sure do.

I am going to make a static front page (I just did this, and still need to change that) I also had trouble with importing from my other WP blog (the one in the OP) It only imported from last Nov. and back. I can figure that out though.

I am also going to play with plug ins.

Thanks for your opinion, and I am open to suggestions (Keep in mind that this will be updated later (more recent posts)

I liked HairGoddess.org - looks great, but your other website I think was more user friendly (i.e. you just had to scroll down to see the latest posts). I think you should definitely go with the .ORG though and redirect traffic from the .WP site to that one. I think it's really sweet with the big pictures. DEFINITELY recommend self hosting - you will get way more traffic in the long run.

Thanks, I just got the newer posts to import, but the pic files are too large for the theme. I am trying to fix it and I can't go quick enough, ugh.

OK, fixed it.

So, opinions wanted. The 'Welcome' page.... Do you think that would make a nice static page?

I've found that a static frontpage give the best numbers. I can normally lower my bounce rate 10-20% by making the blog another page! :-)

Also, with Wordpress you can make pretty advanced sites - not only blogs. I can refer to Conversion rate optimization, up-selling and getting more visitors and Gode Karakterer . dk - Bestå dansk eksamen og matematik eksamen which are my own sites.

Good luck with the project! I like the .org one. Never use a .wordpress, as domains are so cheap.

Thank you for the feedback. I will go check out your sites when I have time to read.

I love being self hosted! I also think the site looks more pro. I have a sponsored ad coming out in a few days, and my goal was to have a professional looking site by then. I hope this is. I was looking at other hair sites and I wonder if mine looks good enough.
