I was wondering if I could obtain a job since I'm a guy or are employers only looking for women to fill that position. The reason I'm asking is I'm looking for a new job somewhere more business related. Most positions I am under qualified and a lot I am over qualified. I believe secretary seems to fit well cause I have a diploma in Business and a certificate in office administration. |

1. If you have a business degree you are qualified for plenty of jobs such as starting as an assistant manager at any sort of retail business, or working in lots of different office jobs, or for small businesses, etc. 2. If you wanted to be a secretary then yes you could do that. (I assume you live in America?) In America the hiring laws may be in your favor, depending on the specific position and company that you apply to. American hiring laws often require businesses to hire the minority applicant for a position even if they have an equally qualified majority applicant. Example: Most high school teachers are female, but hiring laws require schools to hire the minority applicant (aka males) at a certain rate, if possible, or face consequences. Thus, male high school teachers will almost always be hired before female teachers. The same is true for nursing. A male nurse can find a job at nearly any medical facility, because males are so under-represented in that profession. Same is true for college professors, but backwards. Females will almost always be hired as a university professor because the position is dominated by males. Thus, universities are seeking to "look like" they are hiring equally, so the government won't punish them for being discriminatory in their hiring process. So I guess what I am saying is, you might have a very easy time getting a job as a male secretary/assistant/whatever. I am not 100% sure how the hiring laws apply to specific positions or if they just apply to companies as a whole, but it is something to look into. |

1) The reason why I chose secretary is because I am trying to immigrate in to Canada. Thus only a certain jobs allow me to gain the necessary skill points to immigrate. Secretarial position is one of them. 2) That sound great but I live in Canada. I am not sure if they have similar employment laws here as they do in the states. | |

I think that there has been a bit of an increase in males in secretarial and even receptionist positions. They do this in the military quite often too. But going to this route just as a way to immigrate may get the authorities suspicious especially if there's no evidence that you want to be in the secretarial field long term.
