| Hey guys. I'm looking for budgeting/expenditure tracking software or a website. I've been handling my budgets by excel and with pen and paper for years, but I'd like to have things streamlined. I've already got all my investment accounts and savings accounts linked to Etrade, but I still need some software just to track budgets/expenses. Do people suggest Microsoft Money or Quicken? Something else? A site? I've found MyMint online, which looks like it's going to be what exactly what I'm looking for, but it's not launched yet. What do you guys prefer? Thoughts? Thanks, Andrew

| I have my wife all setup with Quicken for just our personal expenditures (checkbook only) BUT if I were tracking my whole personal life, I would use quickbooks vs. quicken or money for the simple reason that once you get to know the program it's very "manipulable" and intuitive. Quicken and Money is setup to "think" for you, and assumes you're a certain level of computer saviness, which is really great, but if you are at least a little more skilled than average, quickbooks is a great bet. it is "double entry" vs. quicken and money which lets you 'get away' with more, but really, with just a tiny bit of skill you can get past that.

In one of my joint ventures we use Quickbooks but for most people I think it is overkill and the learning curve is more difficult. Quickbooks is more expensive than the Quicken. |

I blogged about this decision and my reasons back in December. A Quick Update on Envelope Budgeting Software | Mauder's Money Matters Recently, I checked out Wesabe.com, but ultimately decided to stick with YNAB because of the pure power of the system. Good luck! Dave |
