I have been doing a massive amount of work the past couple of weeks trying to increase my website in the search engine. My website currently made it to the first page of google for a keyword I have been using. It made it there about 3 weeks ago. The keyword receives 368,000 searches locally monthly and 2,240,000 searches globally each month. The thing that I am confused about is that my page ranks 7th on google currently just now, how am I not receiving any kind of traffic at all from google for my main keyword? I thought this was the breaking point into a new level, but something seems to be wrong. If anyone could give me input I would greatly appreciate it. My site has been on the first page for almost a month but yet I have received about two views from this keyword. I just must be doing something wrong... |

Sorry to burst your bubble. This is gonna hurt... I had same experience a year ago. I even based a business upon this. As default Google Keyword Tool selects "Broad". Try to go for "Exact". Then the huge amount of searches comes down to hundreds or thousands. I hope this is not seen as spamming, but I would also suggest you read this article about getting started with SEO. |

So apparantly.. my search term for exact does not get as many searches as I thought... is it too late to switch my main targeted keyword even though I have been buidling backlinks for another keyword?

By selecting exact, Google is telling you the truth about how many searches there are each month. If that is a low number, I would suggest targeting on other keywords. Backlinks will help you no matter what, just be happy you did them. Then in the future you could consider on other anchor texts in the link. I hope you don't mind me asking: Where do you linkbuild? |

As for linkbuilding, I like to post and talk on forums. This is where I do it mainly because I learn information, talk about things that have nothing to do with my site, and it builds links. It is like doing two things at once. I would love to link build in other ways but directories never worked for me. How do you link build? | |
