Default Second Interview (BOOYAH!!)

So then, I got a second interview for a dream job for a graduate. I had to get past a phone interview and a face-to-face interview with a panel to get here. So considering that I've already passed through those elimination, I assume that number of people being called for a second interview is pretty limited. The first interview was about 1 hour long and with 3 people so it was fairly intensive. Second interview will be with a panel of manager from the company. They haven't decided when/where yet but have confirmed my selection in an email.

So I guess my question is, what should I expect from this interview? We covered a lot of behavioural type questions in the first interview - so what else can they ask me? Or is it likely to be a repeat of a first interview?

And what do you think of my chances of landing this job?

Specifics on the company and things like that. All their new projects and upcoming developments in that field. Maybe where you could fit in and contribute to a certain area.

You'll do great I’m sure

Love your signature btw....it truly is!

My experience from an application at Microsoft:

The second interview is all about skills. Here you are tested on your core knowledge. You were given some assignments, and you were to answer them on the blackboard - just like an exam.

I think that is quite common in some jobs: Show me the skills!

Good luck!

Thanks guys. Today they told me that I will be meeting line managers from the company and it will be an informal discussion about the position and work rather than a proper formal interview. Plus it is with three managers and these are pretty busy people so I'm pretty sure that I'm almost in otherwise they wont waste their time on meeting me! I know I gotta take it as if everything is on line and prepare like I did for the first interview but still I can't help but be excited at where this is heading

Don't forget that even though it may not be a formal interview, you can bet the the hiring managers will meet up with the line managers to get their views on you as well as the other candidates. Part of the hiring factors is whether or not you would fit in. So I would suggest that you still go in with your 'A-game'.

Wow, I just remembered I read your article in one of the Toastmasters magazines! Infact I even took out that article and saved it somewhere because I really enjoyed reading it partially because I went to Toastmasters and also because I practise Martial Arts myself. Didn't imagine I'd be talking to here! This is such a great place.

I am not kidding myself regarding the interview. Impressing HR Dept. is one thing and impressing future bosses is quite another. So I will be doing my practice before the interview.

Thanks for commenting!

Hey, good luck. What kind of job are you trying to apply for? What is the area of expertise?

My pleasure. The HR folks are usually the screeners while the managers are probably the ones making the final hiring decisions. Good luck.

Thanks! It's a top-of-the-line graduate position in engineering. It is as good a position as any graduate can hope for.

Sadly, I did not get this position. I am quite gutted and disappointed to miss out after being so close to my dream job. They said they have another job for me which is a step below the one I missed out on so I interviewed it today - must admit it was pretty difficult to put on a positive face during this interview.

I'm down in dumps

Hang in there, things like this normally do work out for the best.

Sometimes it's more important to get your foot into the door so then at least you could show them what you've got once inside. A stellar performance on the job will quickly advance you.

Thanks guys! Yesterday I was quite depressed about missing out but today feeling a lot better. I've definitely learnt few things during this.

I think I probably don't care if I get this second job or not. It will be a good stepping stone but I feel that I already do have a great job and I'm greatful for it! Even though pay is not all that great, I really do enjoy the work and the people - so if I end up staying here for a little while longer I probably wouldn't mind it at all!
