Hi, I'm looking to hire a career coach or counselor. I hope you can recommend yourself or someone you know. Nazli is a 28 year old native of Turkey, currently living in California. She has a clear idea of the kind of the career she wants and is actively pursuing it. She is intelligent and has a bachelors degree in biology. She is actively studying English as a second language and is good enough to understand and be understood. She sometimes stumbles over idiomatic phrases in English, but has no difficulty with longer words with a specific meaning that she can look up in the dictionary. Nazli needs weekly, practical, specific coaching to help her perform her job search. For example, she needs help phrasing her requests for informational interviews so that the recipient understands her request. She has Skype so the coaching can be done remotely. I first contacted 48days.com looking for a coach. They turned out not to be a good fit: they are heavy on discovery (figuring out what kind of career is right for you) and theory (how to do a job search). Their coach noted that Nazli is already more advanced than most of his clients: she already knows what kind of job is right for her. But the people who go through that coach's process typically learn how to do the actual job search themselves with occasional help, and so he's not set up to provide a lot of coaching time for that part. To make an analogy, some people going to the gym need a gym coach to work with them every week. This is what Nazli needs now. I will be paying for this coaching for two reasons: first, as an investment, because I believe that the value that Nazli will provide to the world with a successful career will be far greater than my contribution to pay for coaching; and second, out of curiosity, because there are many people in a similar situation and there are many career products and services -- and I'm curious to find out what actually works. Please contact me directly at andrew.wilcox@gmail.com with your interest or your recommendation. Thank you! |

This has been accomplished. By the way, I was rereading my post and I realized that my wording was ambiguous and it sounded like I was saying that "48days wasn't a good fit" instead of what I meant which was the first coach they recommended turned out not to be a good fit (which is a normal part of a referral process). I would edit my post to correct this if I had permission on the forum to do that. 48days has been a tremendous resource and I highly recommend it for people seeking work they love congruent with their live purpose. |
