Question Anyone use Text Link Ads?

Anyone use Text Link Ads? How do you like it?

Also, my application got rejected because I just started 2 months ago and don't have enough incoming links. How many links do you speculate they want?

Hi Henry, one thing you could do that has worked for me a few times is to create something like a free video, a free report, etc. Then contact the webmaster and tell them how you think their visitors would love it. Also tell them that you will customize it for them. If they like the idea, they will put up a link to your site to get it. Works very well and they are agreeable most of the time if it's something of value to their readers.

I really like Text Link Ads, although one of my 2 sites was rejected too.
They are very picky about which sites they accept. Read this interview with the founder of TLA, in which he explains the factors of their algorithm.

The reason I like TLA is because my blog is doing very good with it! Currently displaying 4 links, making me at least $44 for november. That's probably about 10 times more than what my blog could make from adsense!

Btw, there are other ad brokers, like Performancing, which are not so picky...

I've been using them for a few months, but I've only recently sold any ad slots. My site gets quite a low amount of traffic, so Google ads haven't really done much. I only signed up for TLA after running my blog for six months, and I'd made one or two posts that were quite popular so I'm guessing that helped my case.

Mine did too :-\ Same thing with Chitika eMiniMalls. I've heard other say that those outperform adsense most of the time, but they also have 10s of thousands of visitors a month, or in some cases over 100k a month.

I did get the Amazon affiliate stuff going though. I did it more for my non-investing site as I felt the majority of the audience for it (programmers) would be more inclined to click on an add for computer stuff than a basic google add. Naturally I haen't earned anything from it yet but that could be because geeks tend to ignore ads for the most part.

Hi Phil! I see you followed the advice of making a blog post about each sponsor! That made all the difference for me...

Yes, I just joined and happy so far. Also take a look at linkworth and adbrite.

I've noticed you're doing rather well on the sponsorship front! Hope that success carries on with Bubblomania too

One thing I think has helped is how I wrote my copy on the TLA site. It's far from perfect, but it puts more emphasis on the audience of my site and the kinds of people that will see the ads. I feel that has helped somewhat, although more traffic would be nice too!

In future I want to add a sponsorship landing page, so that potential advertisers can get more information about the site instead of the few words you're allowed on TLA. This way you can share more information about readership numbers, demographics and what sponsorship involves.

I'm also considering adding "Feedvertising", so I'd be interested if anyone has any experience with it.

Nice blog there Phil. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of traffic do you get? Are you on any kind of specialized aggregators?

Thanks I'd say each blog probably has around 50 unique visits a day. My stats say it's much higher, but it doesn't exclude all the spam bots that keep hitting the site.

I've not submitted either of them to blog aggregators, but it's something I'll be looking into over the next few months. I've done the odd carnival & group writing project too, but they didn't seem to generate much long-term traffic.
