Default Any Artists Here Making a Living Off the Web??

How do you connect with buyers?

Put up a site showcasing your work, then promote promote promote across the social media netscape??

I'm very interested in studying the examples of success stories. I know musicians have iTunes, and writers have eBooks, but what do visual artists use?

That would be pretty interesting, though I don't know and haven't heard of visual artists becoming famous due to online presence. Usually online presence is after the fact, and the momentum is built at galleries, in art periodicals, and through damn hard work to get those things noticed.

Reminds me of the NYT's Small Business section this week with its profile of these designer-partners who are opening stores to promote their website...that's right, using brick-and-mortar stores to drive traffic to the website instead of the other more traditional way around!

Anyway, the only scenario I can imagine for visual artists is when them gianormous OLED screens are affordable and folks have 'em hanging up on the house...then there will be a big need for nice easily downloadable "paintings" for the masses!!

redbubble.com

I think that's the website.

I put up about 7 or so images of my photography and artwork.

Ages later, I logged in to get the link to my profile, to my surprise, some strangers had bought 2 postcards or greeting cards of a picture of one of my paintings. It was a complete surprise! I only made about 50 cents though!

It still surprised me though.

With this website people can buy postcards, greeting cards, prints, or images of your work printed on canvas or even framed. The company does all this for you and you just receive most of the money.

Wow, that's wonderful! A Smashwords for visual artists!

Thanks for the ref. I'm sure others have been helped, too!
