I'm a writer and I've heard that fiverr a great way to get the word out about your freelance business. I've been getting a few gigs here and there, but am wondering if it's worth my time to get paid 5 dollars for something I'd normally get paid 30 or 40 dollars for. Has anyone else had any success landing long-term clients through fiverr?

I'd say do things on Fiverr that are repeatable with small changes. Like if you write a kids story and simply change the name of the child. Or, write a love poem and change specifics for the person paying for your services. In my opinion it doesn't make sense to do $5 for work you usually get paid $40 for UNLESS you can you use fiverr to land a new client. Also, I'd try to limit your words. Maybe $5 gets you 100 words or something like that. Some thoughts |

I did the writing thing on Fiverr for a while (a month) and landed at least four steady clients. Pretty awesome I'm going to try selling information products on there next. Ghostwriting on Fiverr is a lot of work and I don't really think you do it for the money. It's for the testimonials, experience, and possibility of ongoing work. |

I have only just started hearing about this Fiverr place. I am yet to look at the website, but is it really worthwhile? Would it be suitable for someone based in the UK? I currently get clients from Elance and Peopleperhour and manage to get arund £20 to £30 per article which is closer to $50. I doubt I could write for $5. it feels a bit like slavery to me. What else do you get out of it?

I've heard someone suggest using it as a place to test freelancers. You could always have a go with the idea that you can then charge your normal fees afterwards - as Mounds suggested. As a writer I might have a punt myself!
