Dear all, I have been asked to make a transaction off ebay. The buyer is willing to come to my house and pay CASH for the item. This sounds great since I will be able to avoid paying the charges for ebay and paypal which are ridiculously high!! Will Ebay notice this transaction? I have already used ebay to contact the buyer back and forth through Ebay 'Respond' function. Please let me know, I don't want my account suspended... |

You can do it as long as nobody else bids higher for the item. You can also choose to close the auction off if nobody else has bidded on the item yet. But if there are already bidders, then you better stick to the auction but that potential buyer has the option to become the highest bidder. If he wins, you can finish off the transaction in person and avoid the PayPal fees but the auction cost will still be there.

Ebay really hate you doing this and they will suspend your account if they catch you. My suggestion is the same as above. tell your buyer to bid in the usual way but that you will accept cash on collection if they win. you could also do a "buy it now" option so they can buy your good via ebay and still pay on your doorstep. think about it - you have made this contact with your buyer through Ebay and they deserve something in return for that service. you agreed to those terms when you posted your item. Legally and morally you know you shouldn't complete the transaction outside of the website. Sorry. Also your buyer may be aware that the thing you are selling is likely to reach a higher price than you may accept at this stage. So waiting until the bidding has run its course may result in getting more for your item. |

If you've been communicating about this subject with the buyer on eBay's own messaging system, of course eBay could find out about it. I wouldn't doubt it's a flag for them if someone cancels an auction after messaging with someone through the eBay system.

eBay's fees are outrageous. I sell outside ebay any chance I get. As long as you use PayPal, you are still protected for the purchase, whether you are the buyer or the seller. Screw ebay any chance you get.
