Default Finding a Job with a Corporation

I read on a news article that the recession ended a year ago. But no one told me that. So McDonalds held a day recently for people to get jobs with them. They hired over 60,000 people. But they had over 1 million people applying for those jobs.

So they only hired 6% of the people applying for those jobs. Harvrad Universtiy accepts 7% of the people applying to go to that college. So that means that it is harder to get a job at McDonalds than it is to accepted by Harvard.

That is simply because of supply and demand.

If it were an economic boom time, then it would be much easier to find a job at McDonald's than to get into Harvard.

And also keep in mind, that if McDonald's is hiring 60,000 people, perhaps that indicates that other companies are beginning to hire also.

Also remember that most people apply to several jobs. So even if McDonald's had 1,000,000 spots open, they wouldn't be able to fill them, because some of the 1,000,000 people who applied to work there would also get accepted to other jobs, and take those jobs instead.

So, it's not as bad as it seems. It is bad, but recovering.

If 1,000,000 people applied to Harvard, Harvard would have a pretty low acceptance rate as well.

Many people apply to 100 or 500 jobs before getting one. So a low acceptance rate doesn't mean much. At one of my jobs 150 people applied for a bookkeeper position paying $15/hour. So our acceptance rate was less than 1%. But that didn't mean we were a super-selective company or anything, it's just that most people put very little effort into applying for jobs-or they put in a lot of effort, but in exactly the wrong areas.

I'm not surprised, with the way things are going.
