Default Using Facebook page and adds as a promotion tool for your website

This is the place to discuss the benefits and setbacks of using facebook to promote your online business.

How to Promote Your Business on Facebook

Sandra, do you use this yourself? I was soooo off-put by the idea of paying per click (yeah I'm stingy there, or rather, I prefer to buy things that will 100% make money and I'm not sure an "ad" would. Thoughts? AND should I start a topic about this?)

I use right now my facebook page for my website intimacy and romance. In the future I do plan to use facebook ads as well, but first I want to get my sales pages in better shape....

Most likely I'll start in a week or 2 to see how it works. If I set the limit to $2,00 a week, I cannot go that much wrong... it is worth trying it out...

Oooh so it is possible to set your maximum? When I checked the options it was all a bit "blurry" and I don t want to end up paying lots to Mr Facebook. Also, do you know which clicks they talk about? "Clicking on the ad" or "Clicking on the like button"?

Gotta be careful with facebook ads. They can be extremely powerful, but if you use them wrong, they can cost you a lot of money.

Most important part is to make sure you have a good picture. With other ad networks, the text is the most important part of the ads. With facebook, it's the picture that draws people's eyes to the text. People will click on funny and interesting pictures, so think outside the box.

It's also a bit of a sketchy situation, because you need to balance clicks with actual "likes," as facebook is more of an investment than a revenue stream. By that, I mean that just because you get a like on facebook, doesn't mean you'll get someone to buy a product. However, you can build a community using facebook pages, which will add to more longterm sales and success. Like I said, it's an investment.

For a small example of the balance between clicks and interaction, I'll use the idea of sexy pictures. Sex sells, and facebook is no exception. However, with sexual ads, you will get TONS of clicks, but no one will actually like your page, meaning that for every click, you're basically spending money on nothing.

Bottom line: Find a good picture, follow it up with a separate landing page (check out redbull's landing page for an example) on your facebook page (NOT JUST THE WALL), and rack up some likes!

Thank you so much mikethedrummer! My photo would have to be a jewel photo, as I make hand made silver and semi-rpecious gems jewelry. Also, I think a good way to set my target potential likers, I could just see what my stats say and it would help greatly with the setting (if I remember well, my biggest percent of likers are women aged 25-35 y.o).

The problem is I know I have competitors that import crap jewelry from china and those are dirt cheap, so people tend to like that (Australian women anyway... it's all about the bargain price, not the actual work put into the piece), so perhaps I should target northern hemisphere countries? (I'm from the north myself and I've noticed how we DO prefer precious metals and stones rather than glass and cheap metals).

did you read the link? It said it in there... I never really checked with facebook itself yet, cause it is pretty blurry how they explain things.

The clicks is indeed the clicks on the advertisement.

What my plan is, is to get more people to 'like' my page, and using pictures and video's and comments and discussions to broaden my audience. Right now, most of my 'likes' are from people on this forum or people I'm already friends with.

If I want to sell my service, I need to be able to also reach people who I don't know yet.

I think it might work very well....

For you, I'd suggest for example uploading 1 picture a day of a pretty piece instead of several pictures all at once.

What you can also do is to make a very nice video with the pictures, with a voice over or text explaining what the stones mean and how much love goes into making them.

Or even a video of you making one....

I think too that one picture is enough. Mmmm, video, with my accent? Maybe a written text then. And I know English speakers think my accent is great but I just do not like it . I think I also want to "spruce up" my page in several areas before I start with the ads. But definitely I will look into it (and yes I read and bookmarked the link, because it seems better explained than from the site itself).

I also wonder about security...giving my "payment details" to Facebook does not give me a good feeling. I hope they have a Paypal option, cause nooo way I'm giving them my credit card details .

I'm just getting into the Facebook craze, got close to one hundred likes (followers) and not even working on promoting it right now. It's easy to drive traffic with Facebook ads. I'm working on a custom i-frame that welcomes readers and entices them to 'like' the page resulting in a follow.

I get many clients through my facebook fanpage. I was thinking about doing a regular ad, but I am a local business. This is my hair business. I have filled days through the page, and also posting links on my regular FB wall. I also have a WP blog that I link to frequently. I only have around 100 but they are mostly locals.
