| Keep the specifics off this board, and out of the reach of the general public, unless it's an idea for the public at large that will benefit lots of people regardless of who has control over it. If this is something new, then be very careful who you talk to about it. (not that I'm suggesting for a moment that the typical member here would knowingly steal someone's idea - but you never know what random surfers might come across and decide would be a good idea...) Without giving too much away, could you say what sort of knowledge would be required for such a project?

| Have you found a way to make Google Maps relevant to the British? 'cause you know we only understand directions when they're laid out in relation to pubs.

| And, in my estimation, that could mean a number of things. If you can't get it yourself (time to educate, specialty of knowledge, etc.), then figure out who you can hire. Whatever that information or knowledge is, find a way to get it working for you, whether you do it yourself or someone else does it for you. |

| What are you missing? Once you know that, you find people to do it for you, or you learn to do it yourself.

| But remember: If you have a good idea, 5 people had it before you. If you have a great idea, 12 peope had it before you. Have you done your researches to inform yourself whether this idea is already on the market? |

| JoeKinley, yes! only one match, but it's a little bit [non-profit] different from what I'm thinking of. My next problem is that Google has set a number of limits on GMAP API. I expects my project to generate a lot of traffic. With that restriction I don't think my project will be worth trying.... |

| You know that having an idea is only 1% of a project? About keeping your idea secret: Quote from the book "The art of the start" by Guy Kawasaki: Q. Should i share my secret ideas with anybody other than my dog? A. The only thing worse than a paranoid entrepreneur is a paranoid entrepreneur who talks to his dog. There is much more to gain - feedback, connections, opened doors - by freely discussing your idea than there is to lose. If simply discussing your idea makes it indefensible, you don't have much of an idea in the first place.

| I've just started reading the recently published: "wikinomics", and it's presenting some interesting takes on where the web is going. Especially the focus on openness. Slightly off-topic, but would likely give you a few ideas for your startup, nvictor. |

| Ok. It's about using Google Map to track ships and planes. We people are not familiar with ships or planes trajectories. But we fly a lot. And our products are being shipped a lot. So my idea, which will benefit more people than Captains is to reveal this to public. The only example application I've found is this one: http://sdsioa.ucsd.edu/Melville/Current/gmap-test.html I really need some advice, because when I said I like knowledge I mean I don't know what systems ships are using for tracking, if Google will accept such project, and how I'm going to make money with it. thanks |

| It's a cool idea. Would it look anything like: FlightAware > Live Flight Tracker Check out LAX... man, another reason why I dont like going thru that airport. So busy. FlightAware > Live Flight Tracker > Airport > Los Angeles Int'l Airport (Los Angeles, CA) [KLAX/LAX] |
