Unhappy Selling *Prepackaged* Food at a Flea Market?

Alright so I'm in the process of getting a stand/stall/10x10 rental space/whatever so that I can sell "Prepackaged frozen dessert confections." I've called the Health Dept, they refered me to the Dept of Agriculture, and that guy said I'd need a one compartment sink. Now thats all good and everything, assuming I can get the Flea Market manager to okay me, I have to somehow "have" a one compartment sink. I'm pretty sure I wouldnt be able to get running water there though. I'm looking for some creative ideas on making this work nevertheless...any creative ideas?

I'm calling him back tomorrow on my lunch break, and am gonna try to fish for some loopholes like where exactly does this one compartment sink need to be? within such and such feet or what? Maybe I can still pull it off if I can use one of the flea markets as "mine". Well, we'll see I suppose, wish me luck and think up some other ideas! Curse the GA Dept of Agriculture!

Does the sink have to be in your stall, or do you just need access to a sink? I'm sure you've seen the signs in public restrooms saying 'All employees must wash their hands before returning to work'. It could be that the regulation is in place just to ensure that you have access to a place to wash your hands. I've been to several flea markets in VA, and the hot dog carts, etc. did not have their own individual sinks.

Maybe check with the hot-dog vendors and other people already selling food? It's possible that they're all just illegal and not in compliance with the GDA regulations, but you could at least see if any of them know how to get around the rules.

Weird. I don't remember seeing people in NYC with sinks...?

This is what you need. Seems like an expensive hassle though. Do your homework and see how you can get around it.

Double check with him again and ask him about this possibility.

I have been selling my mixes for 18 years now...doing about 12 shows per year and I have had to deal with health departments in about 6 different counties and they all vary.

I actually use BUCKETS. But I have to have 3. One for hot water (washing with soap), one for rinsing and one for sterilizing. I also have to have the bleach with the strips (ask him about that also).

I also freaked out the first time I learned about this....but now I know the ropes. I sample SOUP and hot chocolate and have never had to have a sink in 18 years.....
