What can I sell well on the Internet? When you have programming skills but can't work for an employer or can't do freelance work [F-1 Visa policies]?

The three most obvious options are:

1) Trialware (shareware) programs
2) Games
3) You can have a free web service with ads, such as forums, database of something, like a genre of music or some collectibles, download server, etc

All of them can be fully automated.

First step to sell something in the internet is to find people need something, then try to offer this thing for them.

It's a group of steps and a lot of researches before spending time and effort with a product, so I suggest to you to keep searching for the people first before product.
