Default Email Marketing to Promote Online Store

Has anyone tried email marketing to promote your online store? Do you find buying lists to be effective?

What sites or services would you suggest? Any eBooks that effectively explain how to compile your own lists through opt-in?

Thanks guys!

I don't know other people, but I don't read advertise emails, you can use money for the list buying adwords.

Hi Dave,

I use email marketing a lot and find it's incredibly effective. I try to personalize it quite a bit and always send free tips and advice and anything else I can do to keep it from seeming spammy. The key is to deliver some good value so you train your list to trust you and get them used to opening your emails.

Hands down you should get the eBook Inside the List if you are thinking of doing this. I know the authors and have it myself....incredibly insightful.
