Default I find working in a job depressing but want to be positive

OK guys, I've been working from home for about 2 years maintaining an e-commerce website, which has been very cruisy work.

But now I'm taking on a part time job as I need a bit of additional income, and thought it would be good to get people contact as well. It's a few more hours working in a knives shop, and requires gaining lots of product knowledge..

But I find the whole idea of leaving the house to go to work a bit depressing.

Any suggestions? Maybe I should just do my best, focus on the positive aspects, realise it's not forever, and noone likes going to work anyway, and then just take it as it comes. If they're not happy with my work after a week or so, just realise it probably wasn't for me.

The job won't be my main job, just additional income for a bit of security, so I can work on other stuff so should be good, and I think I really need the money..

Not sure if I really need advice but any would be helpful!

It's only 10-15 hours normally, but more during holiday periods etc.

Hey guys,

what I was worried about was that the guy said "we'll see if you sink or swim" but now that I think about it, he was just joking. I'm such a worrier, hahah..

So I'm not so worried,

But I think just be enthusiastic and positive, smile etc. be good for me..

Hi Brendannz,

One word-- bribery!

When I was working a job I didn't like very much-- I was saving up money for a very specific goal. In fact, I was saving up $8,000. Every day I went to work I would think-- I am THIS much closer to hitting my goal. And I was happy every day.

No matter really what happened at work....... I was making money for my dream/goal, so I was super happy.

I also knew a girl who was saving up money to travel for 6 months through Australia. She worked two jobs-- saved money for a year-- and then took her long vacation. She told me she worked like crazy, but she would always think... I'm going to need food & shelter on my trip and this money will get me those things. So she was happy working like a dog, too.

I have a feeling that "more security" isn't juicing you enough to earn that money. Maybe you can get excited about earning money for security or maybe you need to offer an additional bribe/ reward to yourself. Like 80% of the income from your new job goes to security and 20% goes to splurging on concert tickets... or whatever appeals to you.

The key is having something wonderful to motivate you.

The job is not the problem. The depressing nature of the job is not the problem at all.

The problem is that you don't want the money badly enough.

As well, I'm not used to leaving the house to go to work.

I've done that before, worked in a **** job to save to go overseas..

But at the moment, I'm starting to have more goals in my life, so I think I'm starting to get more excited about the job..

I guess I need more goals, and need to find new motivations with the money..

I think joydream had the perfect advice. For an update, this is more of a part time additional income job than my main source of income.. But I think you were right about motivation..
