Default Working as a nanny

I am just about to start a job working as a nanny and I am unsure about what the dress code is. Normally when I babysit it is jeans and a t-shirt type clothes but is it okay to wear trackies on the odd days and then days when I have to take the children out to playgroup or other activites can I wear somthing a bit nicer. I do realise that heels and anything to revealing is out and that the clothes are likely to get stained. But what do parents want the nanny to wear?

As long as you aren't wearing a pyjamas or a suit you'll be fine. Jeans/khakis and a t-shirt is great. I would prefer that, knowing how active my son is.

I'd say for a first day, jeans and t-shirt.

At the end of the first day ask the parents if they have any expectations about what you dress or if it is ok if you dress in sweat pants when taking the children out.

Personally, if I would have children and I'd hire a nanny, I'd prefer she would be wearing something that she wouldn't mind getting dirty so she'd be worried about playing with my child and not about getting her clothes dirty....

Oh, and I think there are some other important things that you might want to ask as well... but maybe you already did that?

Like: how do the parents expect you to react when the child is doing something "wrong" etc.
