Default Business is a real drag!!!

One of my favorite similes I have ever heard in my life was a description for a heavy metal band's sound:

"It's like walking at chin's depth through a river of cough syrup".

All this SEO, backlink, marketing, stuff has been minimally effective, but I know it is not the system that is flawed, it is just my vision of reality. This will change. The sheer amount of material related to the subject of making money online is ridiculous and the usefulness of these sources is questionable at best. Pretty much every site I sign up for feels like one much hole in the ground for me to get stuck in and have to climb myself out of.

I know how to succeed though, or, at least, I feel how to succeed. Somewhere deep in my gut is everything I need, and just turning my site into my ideal is relatively easy, then it is just to turn on the switch for all that have been missing something in their lives. I KNOW HOW TO DO IT! But the everyday stuff I wonder sometimes how much of it works.

For now, I'll just focus on leaving blog comments with backlinks, posting in here (I actually love reading this stuff), finding some small ways to market my blog, and most of all, stay true to my vision! I know what my vision is and I am going toward it closer everyday. Everything around it changes!!! I am not afraid of change and will use it to my advantage. Nothing can pin this down, it is too agile.

I would be curious to know what methods you are using, your website and your niche. Not only have I successfully ranked my websites for competitive keywords, but I have also struggled in the past--almost to a point of not giving up.

You are very correct that this stuff is hard, and sometimes you fee like once you climb out of one whole you fall right into another, deeper one. I guess we could call the middle ground between the two holes hurdles. Without knowing your particular situation, the only advice I can give is find what is in your way. Then focus on learning how you can either go around, go over, or break through the road block.

If you are struggling with marketing your website/product, then maybe you need to go back and do some more market research. I assure you, if you find an audience that is interested in whatever it is your providing, they WILL eat it up. Have you tried finding more specific niche related message boards for your website? That will drive you an insane amount of targeted traffic if you can find a bustling forum.

Sorry for such a long post.

Hi Futhark,

Here's what I do in the first month when I set up a new blog:

I write and post 3 posts on my blog each day. These posts are 350-400 words. Do all of the SEO stuff.

I convert the posts into simple videos and post them on Youtbe, Metacafe and Dailymotion(simple slidshow of the article)

I turn the posts into a podcast( I just read what I wrote) I upload them to 5 podcast websites.

I post the blog posts on the top 5 article directories

I make 10 posts a day on related or closely related forums

I make 10 comments on related or closely related blogs

Just stay focused on the long term payoff.

I hope that helps.

Ron

Ron,your advice sounds really great!

I second thirial - could you give more details about article/podcast websites you post your content to?

Actually, you could make a great article for bloggers from your forum post if you would go in depth

That is perfect advice Ron. Concise, comprehensive, sensible and not and ad sale in site.
I have yet to read a post equal to your info.
Well done and thanx Ron :-)

Aiyori,

Writting 3 350 word blog posts is not that hard. I don't know your abilities but I can crank out 10 high quality posts in a day. If 3 is to many do 1 but do 1 every day. At least do it Monday through Friday. Highly optimized, keyword rich, value added content is what brings visitors to your blog over and over. Also, be sure to focus on getting high quality backlinks to your posts. Once you start to get rankings for your posts......watch out! The traffic will start to roll in.

Once the content gets seasoned, you'll be found for keywords that you did not even target.

Good luck.

PS- if 3 is to many, just do 1. This is not a race.

How are you going to monetize your blog? Getting traffic may not be enough if the revenue model isn't realistic.

So today I decided that I am going to make a few ebooks for my blog. Traffic is not going to do a thing unless there is a service or product on my website. I have personally loved the advice Ron Hitson has given and have used it to try to keep daily targets for just "getting done what needs to get done" - thanks for such a lively conversation.
